The model numbers for all LC & LJ Torana started with an 8.
Why a 4 cyl tag? Who knows, perhaps because that one is Salamanca Red with Black interior and is from an early 1972 Adelaide built LJ.
40D Black vinyl trim was only available on the 82411 & 82469 4 cyl LC & LJ Torana.

As above, 8 means GMH. The actual model code is 2911.

Again, whilst fakers and those pushing misinformation are of low IQ there is no problem and maybe 75% of them are probably hitting the idiot line of any IQ curve. The issue is I think people suddenly get blinkers on and think they see a bargain, no matter how smart they are. Luckily a lot of them like Andy ask the right questions in the right place!

Andy, if you are looking for an original GTR or XU1 then give this one a miss. It is an out and out replica.

It seems to be a nice tidy looking LJ, although it is a pity they welded the Rare Spares guard slits in the wrong way around.

Also keen to work out dealer number and history if anyone knows.
I’m accessing this site off my phone, so the links to the disc of numbers isn’t working for me.
Thanks for your help.

Have heard good stuff over the years about West End performance in Campbelltown.
I had a few small things done by them many moons ago and they were efficient.

No JP block anymore, the previous owner grenaded that, and replaced the block with a JL (GTR) block. Just trying to work out if it’s worth pursuing to hunt for JP block (non-matching number) or keep the JL or get a QL and re-built to the specs (as best as possible) as a JP. Follow up question, probably for another thread, but does anyone know of a trusted engine rebuilder in Sydney?

I wouldn't bother, just use any old QL, 11QL, GL, XQL, GM, QM, JL, ZL, ZM, XZL, FL etc. They are all over Gumtree for $100-$300, many standard bore. Even more of a pool if you are happy to use VL, WL, VK etc. My opinion is you are wasting money buying a JP and risking flushing that if you grenade it. My personal opinion is JP engines should go back into their original cars where they still exist, and those are also the people who the engine has the most value to. I treat my GTS 327 engines the same, not for sale unless to the owner of the original car.
Dr Terry might still know of a good engine shop, he's in Auburn area.

Genuine XU1's with their original, not re-stamped engine block are pretty rare these days and generally bring good money because of it. If the car hasn't got it's original block then the closest your ever going to get is an NP replacement block. They're like rocking horse poo to find these days, you'll have more luck winning Tattslotto, and if you do fluke finding one you'll need that Tattslotto win to pay for it.
My car has a QL block, bought that way, but I have a JP in the shed to fit in it someday (had the block before the car), but after over 20 years ownership the swap still hasn't happened as JP blocks are worth money too because people like spending for no good reason.
With non original running gear I can drive the car as it was intended- the early morning 'demonstration' laps I sometimes participate in at the Historic meets are done as fast and hard as the car and the officials will let me - no worry if something ends up on the tarmac :-) Super fun that the numbers matching guys can only dream of.

Hi everyoneI'm hoping to get some further information on my 1973 LJ GTR Torana.Vin 8D11LDH293568J9/73 BLJ 52638BChassis # LJ 56382EEngine no: JL414817Model LJ82911Body 293568BTrim 1868 50xPaint 567 15335The car was sold to me as a genuine GTR, it was on club rego and registered incorrectly as a 1972 Torana, rego expired in 2005. We have the original rego papers. Thanks in advance.
8D11LDH293568J is an LJ GTR assembled at the Acacia Ridge VAP and completed on the 25/09/1973.
Chassis number BLJ52638B & PSN/Body number 293568B align nicely with the 25/09/1973 completion date.
The Original engine number recorded in the VML was JL409018.
The body colour according to the Body ID tag is Orchid Metallic and the interior trim is Black Vinyl.
This GTR was sold during November 1973 and the credited selling dealer was code# 066 - Preston Motors - 104 Russell Street, Melbourne. VIC.
I assume Chassis # LJ 56382E is the number stamped into the left hand inner wheelhouse panel.
It should match the BLJ52638B number on the ADR Compliance Plate. Did you make a typo with the number?

Thanks for your response Dave.
The GTR was registered using the stamped chassis, though I believe it's been registered incorrectly, as I have double-checked and can read 'BLJ56382B', though the B for Brisbane looks like an 'E'.
The numbers still do not match the ADR plate, but from reading your response it seems that the plates are legit and match up to the car.
Is there any explanation on why the ADR plate and the chassis stamp does not match up? We believe the Torana has racing history if that helps with anything.
To our knowledge, the car has been altered with reinforced steel, as well as the car being resprayed yellow and gloss black inside the engine bay, making it extremely hard to correctly read the chassis number.
Thanks again.

The possibilities are the car has been repaired using the left front QTR cut from an 11/73 LJ which included the chassis number BLJ56382B or the whole front clip was replaced or the 3 tags were placed onto another complete body shell.
If the car has racing history then one of the aforementioned scenarios are highly probable. Race cars were always getting damaged and repaired.
