My mates Dad said to me once that in his opinion the LJ XU1 would walk all over a LX A9X Hatch at Bathurst. i said i wouldnt be so sure as the A9X was so good around Bathurst but you cant write off the staying power of the XU1.
So what car, if both prepared to same specification (group 3?) , would win a 1000km race around Bathurst???
Cheers,
Mick

Add the 1980, 81 and 82 Commodores to the equation - in my opinion, still doesn't change the A9X at the top, but the XU-1 would still probably be last in the list.
What I'd really like to see is a real contest between a freshly built properly prepped Group C A9X with good current rubber, and a current V8 Supercar around Bathurst. I know which one would sound and look better, no matter the outocme!

The HRT won, followed by the SS, then the A9X.

A9X wasn't properly race prepped, as in it had old hard race tyres, amongst other things.Channel 7 did this comparison a little while ago... A9X/HRT Supercar/VY SS
The HRT won, followed by the SS, then the A9X.

EDIT: it was on the ch 10 telecast of bathurst in 2004 BTW
IMO comparing and A9X to XU-1 is like comparing apples with oranges, they are two entirely different cars for two entirely different eras. The A9X definitely dominated its era, whereas the XU-1 was more of the underdog that would punch above it weight division.

Whilst the A9X was near 30yrs old with shit tyres and the wrong diff ratio that limited top speed badly.
Considering that the Bowdens were allowing this national treasure out at such speed and Peter would have babied it around with this in mind.
I think the A9X did very well.
I think the odds were stacked against the A9X as it would look bad for Holden if the 27yr old A9X came first.
Don't you think so?
