sorry I'm no expert but just wondering why you kept 3rd gear all the way to turn 2 from turn 1 instead of shifting into 4th. just my observation that maybe you could've carried more speed into turn 2. plus it would've been easier on the donk aswell. not having a dig at you mate just a genuine question

otherwise very entertaining lap of the mountain for sure!

Change at 7000 where the cam drops off so hear what you are saying but on the limit in third probably would only get into 4th for a second or 2 . Ended up doing what you say in the later after box change slightly lower third gearing , into turn 2 was similar , thanks for comment .

Thanks Lxchev and bulleta9x

Re torana lover and Shaun's comments re gear changes...... i have read/ Heard?  of some of the racecar simulator fans ( arcade game style but on steroids) build tracks totally aligned to their gear ratios,,, quite a bit of maths plotting shift points , rpm drop between gears, apex routes and even lateral g forces  ( how true this is or worthwhile i don;t know,,,, but it was probably borne out of a frustrated race car driver having to decide whether to keep it pinned to the rev limiter, keep on cam etc r or short shift... the real life tracks don't play fair like that,, but it does make it interesting in mixed car racing

My rule of thumb ( so real race cars drivers probably do opposite)

if i am having a bad gear shift day, don't tempt fete by going    up , blip, down  turn  as it will chew up time if you get it wrong

( somedays it feels like brake blip  , neutral, holy heck brake, turn in , heck forgot to engage gear, trail brake, heck, straighten wheels , brake harder, miss apex , miss corner, re enter track after bashing underside on ripple strip, lose  three places and resume racing)

When I get time I can download onto YouTube one lap of each of the tracks I have raced on with the A9X. And put on here , have done 37 race meets in the old girl , lakeside , Morgan park , eastern creek , Oran park , Philip island , sandown , Winton , Albert park AGP , symmons plains , etc .

Did anyone notice the 1988 Brock Mobil M3 behind us Toranas ? he had no hope !!! Especially down Conrad .

Sure beats that freight train racing called SuperV8s and to me they don't even sound like a "real" V8

Not bad a 2:35 lap of bathurst (with conrod chicane) - Brock was 2:20:500 (without chicane -pole A9x 1979)

1988 Brock Mobil M3 (group A)   2:23.76 (qualifying)

( somedays it feels like brake blip  , neutral, holy heck brake, turn in , heck forgot to engage gear, trail brake, heck, straighten wheels , brake harder, miss apex , miss corner, re enter track after bashing underside on ripple strip, lose  three places and resume racing)

I know exactly what you mean,  sometimes its not the place to unsettle the car and if you blow it you can pay bigtime.  (including a change of undies)  Me and turn 1 at SMSP changing back to 4th do not gel.  I just leave it in 5th until I get somewhat straight then go for 4th for a little bit more punch out of the corner.

Great video well done.  They don't know what they are missing do they!

Just had a look at the heritage touring car times vs historic touring car..... again similar comment to Balzifar, great times..... getting 2.29 , 2.30 around there in a car that you definitely don't want to bend ( i know you don't want to bend any, but if you look at the PI Historic 2017 Touring races, the historics ( or some at least) seem to be less cautious in my opinion)

turn 1 SMSP... very  very heart in mouth stuff.... ,

that was a really good roll out for heritage class,

Heritage touring cars are the originals , we have strict anti contact rules , ie first at turn in on entry to corner has right away , sorta pleasing as once there gone they are gone , a reshell is not classed as the original .

Historic touring cars are the base models ie torana S made into an xu1 lookalike
Still can't believe the carnage that historic touring cars have been having of late , win at all costs but really the trophy is only plastic !

I saw (Top Gear festival) and did not believe when I saw it, Mark Webber go through Turn 1 at SMSP in the red Bull F1 car , all the way down the straight AND through Turn 1 on the gas,  guessing 280+ kph , simply stunning! I scared myself once at 140 kph - road car/road tyres and nearly run out of track width.  Never again!

Hi Shaun,

Nice driving mate, its a big commitment racing a car like yours around that place, to be fast you need to be close to the walls and they get closer the longer you race as the cars slides more!

I remember watching Brock racing this car at PI, it must be awesome to own it now!

cheers,

Sam
