Note pressings in this single outlet water pump body to prevent the bearing coming forward. I think this is what the Sept 74 update was referring to.

Yep. I had a look at mine and the the one with the blanked off second outlet doesn't have it and the one with only one outlet cast into it does have it. When was production of L34s finished? Was it before Sept '74?  Does this mean that all L34s were produced with the earlier pump?

Thats how my two are as well.
The pumps may have been available prior the paperwork, who knows?

Manufacture stamp on inside of mine is D164 (if that's a date it could be '74 164th day, ie. june 13) which predates the build of my car.
What is stamped inside your NOS pump Laurie?

The one fitted to my car at the moment (early type) is D22. 22nd Jan '74.

My spare early type is D181 30th June '74

It also has this mark which must be a clue to the manufacturer.

The later NOS one with the bearing retainers is D332, but it is stamped (cast) on the back side . 28th Nov '74

It is getting close to lining up with the CAMS documentation.

The cast blind one I have is stamped D237, so appears that style continued being produced after introduction of the other style. Or maybe D is day not 4?

But that is August 20. So that makes the timeline still correct if the new style wasn't introduced until October. Or am I missing something? It's still early here.

Between us there's 5 pumps.
Let's assume the stamps are dates.
1.Jan 22 blind (on your engine)
2.Jun 13 single (on my engine)
3.Jun 30 blind (your spare)
4.Aug 25 blind (my spare)
5.Nov 28 single (your spare)

So VK's used both the short and long pumps?

I wonder if the crank pulley "Engine Performance Equipment exc Air Cond" was smaller in diameter than the others?
