Has anyone put VN SS brakes and wheels on a LJ front end?

I have all the gear in new condition including Drum brake stubs; just don’t have the calliper conversion yet. What I need to know is will 15 inch wheels with 195 tyres clear all steering and suspension parts? As a side note all this is going in an Austin a40 pickup, hoping the off set will pull the tyres under the guard without flaring.

I can't comment about the brakes, but 15" Commodore wheels clear the suspension & steering items.

Are vn ss brakes different to standard vn v8 brakes?

Yep a standard 15 x 6" commo rim clears everything on the front even with lower springs but I only have VN V6 disc's on the front & VL calipers currently

Think the tyres are 215 from memory but will have to check

Backs are 235/50/15.
Fronts are now 205/50/15 but did have 225/50/15 that cleared ok as well.

No tubs just rolled lips & had to massage seatbelt nut & trim the Bolt on one side ( don't think diff is symmetrical)dba85065932d988351cc8bd24c1cf58e.jpgf94ff73d1f3939b64972da3949bd8c51.jpg

7" with 104mm backspace measured from the bead.
But I have a BW 78 cut down narrower than standard4baf5e38df03e6ea4640e19c92a9f689.jpg

I will cut down a BW as well would you get 8s and 245s in the the wheel well or do you think 7 235 Max?

Had the EK for about 15 years and drove for most of them, its been such a great car I owe it a Restoration currently 202 5 speed but will probably go v6 5 speed.

only retired it when I registered my truck.

looks like it might be a little tight, if the right rims come up, I might be able to tub to the rails but if not the 235 look good and a lot less work.

The truck is a 50 model chev on HQ chassis V6 5 speed I have a 5 LTR and 5 speed to go in but it might not be till XMAS as I live in qld and work in Newcastle I only get home every 4 weeks for a week and playing catch up with wife kids ETC does not leave much shed time.

PS the truck is a driver and has been driven to and from newcastle about 15 times in the last 18 months with out any problems TOUCH WOOD

Thanks heaps for the help and PIC,s

Yeah im thinking about tubing to the rails & squaring up the tub to give clearance for slicks. LOL if i get motivated.

The truck would definitely sound better with an 8 in it :D :D

Pulls wheel inwards

Years ago tried 14" commo wheels with 1" raised spings & commo disc...rim just touched or maybe it was tyre.

Tried the machined down version with kingswod calipers they hit control arm.

The smaller discs ar vb-vn s1 with non ribbed calipers, not sure if they bolted up...wanted to use vk 14' rim with gtr centre cap for gtr look.

LJRB30...did you make adaptor for caliper buy one? Torry stubs or kingswood?

LJ stubs

Adaptor is CRS unit to suit WB calipers that i welded up the holes & retapped to suit the VL caliper

I rang CRS and was told the commodore kit is available, but was not popular with torana guys as they push the wheels out to close to the guards???

i would have thought that with a commodore off set they would sit in more, the pick of Trevor's car looks to have heaps.

I have drum brake and disk brake stub axles, and as new VN Disks and ribbed calipers I would like to put on the Austin with the 15x6 BMW wheels in the Pic, I dont want to flare the guards to much, with a narrowed BW diff with the 15x10 centrelines on the back.

and on the LC 14 or 15x8 and 14 or15 x 6 steel or alloy GTS RIMS

Yep they obviously haven't bolted a set on a car!
It clears the body & front end with low springs no problem.
I think now if I was to do a basic brake upgrade I'd put a extra wide spacer in the LJ calipers & put ventilated discs on but hindsight is a wonderful thing lol

finding good early calipers to rebuild is now the hard part. I have been looking for HQ calipers that I could afford for the truck for a while now, and found the tread on Nissan 4 spots, it would seem that it would be cheaper and better to go that way instead, with a VT commodore booster and master cylinder. the EK has SLR Torana which bolt straight on to hr stub axles, but I am considering a full LH- UC front end during rebuild with HQ disc's and again Nissan 4 spots I like to do as much as I can myself and have a decent work shop and most tools to get buy. I cant afford hoppers type kits, and don't like big Diameter hub cap looking wheels on early cars

Yeah my loooooooooong term upgrade is nissan 4 spots on VT disc's with VT master adapted to LJ booster ( its been sitting on the bench for years  )

Had thicker reshaped adaptors waterjet cut (and some extras) in similar style  to the CRS ones so i can mill the offset i wanted & suit the usual machined drum stubs for the 4 spots But recently have obtained some UC UCA's with disc stubs so i will look at maybe using them (when i get back around to it!!)

I wanted to improve the braking cose i wasnt impressed with commo discs all round (& cheap shit pads :o ) with the old single diaphragm

So now have reco double booster :D  QFM A1R pads at both ends & am gunna test them out tomorrow at the Collie motorplex track    :D

Hope the frOcking rain holds off
