Just picked up this UC front for my LH project and it looks like it's had some work done to it a long time ago.

HX Girlock Calipers, HQ-HZ Stub axles, HQ Steering arms and 5 Stud on 4.25" PCD Ventilated Disc Rotors.

Anyone know if this combination actually works?

Thanks in advance

Regards Peter

I tried some HQ steering arms when I was measuring bump steer. I didn't bother plotting them against the other arms since the numbers were so far out.

Unless something has been altered quite significantly it would be a bit dangerous. Maybe they just put them on there to make it easier to roll around?

OK. That's really the answer I wanted/needed. If bump steer is an issue with these arms. It's a no brainer. They are extremely long as well and really doesn't make the rack look right. They have been on the car for a long time as I had to steam clean for an hour to get all the crap off it! Iv'e posted a plan view that shows the length of these arms!

Thank You

Yes for HJ-HZ (HQ got the short version for manual steer also). The short is ~90mm from tie rod end to front bolt and the long is ~120mm if I remember correctly, these look like the long ones from the overhead shot (which also push the tie rod end inboard a bit for wheel clearance). The long ones slow the steering ratio somewhat too, in this case you may possibly even have reduced lock/turning capacity.

The biggest issue for bump steer is the height of the tie rod end, they are dropped too low. Have seen/heard of tricks with bending the arms and using fancy brackets at the mounting bolts to alter the angle but its hardly worth the hassle if you're building a standard Torana front end.

OK. From your description it sounds like the LONG steering arms are fitted here. I'll do a measure and confirm that.

I wont be screwing around with these arm. Much easier to simply replace with the right steering arms and fix the issue. I'll grab a set of the HARROP A9X aftermarket arms

Many thanks for your help
