I'm converting an old Wood-grain Dash to Silver using a "Restospares" Kit - just wondering, I peeled the Wood-grain Inserts from the Heater Levers / Fan Switch & Choke / Wiper Switch Panels - come off in one piece - used a Stanley Knife to prize it apart. Are the Wood-grain Inserts glued the same way, around the Flow-through Ventilation Vents? They don't look like the other two - I scared that I may break off the Vent Section of the Dash if I lever the Wood-grain Panel too hard.

No. The grain is printed on.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has used either products above and can report on results and any pics if possible. I am looking at converting from a woodgrain dash to silver and going through the process of what, where, how, for my dash components and repairs. Interestingly I spoke with Dashboard Dr yesterday and was informed they mainly only do dash pads. I queried him about consoles etc but he didn't seem interested. I suspect they have a lot of work on at present. I see a business in Geelong called Plastic Repair Surgeons. Haven't spoken to them yet. Anyone know of them? Cheers Ron

The Dashboard Doctor repair damaged dash pads, well that's what they are known for anyway. Repairing the foam and the vinyl forming the PVC over them.
I've not heard of them restoring dashes other than the above.
Dash Original in Adelaide restore dashes.
Danny Trajcevski (you can find him in the FB groups) restores dashes too, does nice work.
Don't know about the other one in Geelong you mentioned.
I have done a silver decal kit (like the 3M adhesive one), I personally think it is better to use a black grain ('S' model) upper dash with the decal kit, so that the silver isn't proud of the brightwork line around the edge (the black grain is recessed but the woodgrain dashes sit flush already so the thickness of the silver will stick proud).
The decal needs a bit of heat stretch it above the gauge holes in the top fascia... it's not a perfect product. And generally it will need some trimming with a sharp stanley knife to fit real nice around the edges, but it can all be done and fairly neatly if you spend some time on it. My build thread covers that area a bit.

Thanks Heath. Given they list on their website that they do repairs, reskinning and restoration of dashboards, consoles etc, I thought they may be able to do the lot.
The decal protrusion was one thing I wasn't sure about. I notice in the previous post you can peel the finish off some of the dash parts but not all. I doubt I will try and do the repairs as I don't have the skillset and beside just changing the face I need some repairs carried out, so I thought as an option, if I could provide some of the components to someone that does, it may make it a bit simpler (not re-inventing the wheel).
Dash Original is on the radar but I am hoping I can find someone locally. Call me old fashion but I like to have face to face conversations when going over these things. You get a better understanding of their thoughts when you can see their facial expressions.
Cheers Ron
