253 & 308 were released in the HT Series.

First time a Holden V8 was ever fired up would have to be back in the mid 1960's when these engines were under development.

A good read

"It was six months before machined parts arrived and it was not until October 1966 that the first engine was fired up. Four days later, it failed after swarf caused an oil pump seizure. Silins used an HR for testing, but it was later replaced with an XT Falcon. The HR was first driven on 5 June 1967."

I am going to call myself wrong here. I was going off the Street Machine article but technically, with the first motor having been cast by Saginaw and machined by Chevrolet before being assembled here I reckon the pic that Arrimar put up is a more accurate answer to the question. i.e. being the first one to come off the Holden production line.

There must be a photo somewhere of the XT with a 253 in it.

Why did everyone have such bad eyesight in the 60s? Was it due to the lack of mobile phones and computer screens?

It was red  with a VC prefix Dave, but A9L was what I was after.

OK LJ gurus, who can tell me what is going on here?

recall on dodgey/loose bolts in seating assembly?......

the colour of the doco looks like it might be from one of those ""Accelerator""  booklets the dealers got, that included current fixes to customer issues............

Jeez you blokes are good. It was a fix for the rattle in drivers seat as shown in Accelerator August '73 featuring Jose' Canga's stunt team.

On the right in this photo taken at the 1975 Equestrian Expo is Holden's public relations director Joe Teal and his wife. Who is she shaking hands with?
