I like the flares on the car but I'm not a fan the fibreglass spoiler on the front as I want to eventually have the XU1 style chrome air dam on it.

The front bodywork behind the spoiler looks fine so I think I'll take it off before doing the primer tomorrow.

The flares and spoiler are tied together on the sides so I'm thinking I'll make the cuts below in red to take it off and hopefully the flares will be o,k.

Yep, you will find a way to make it blend in. My LC is bolt on flared and I have made up my own XU1 styled front spoiler, so the flares just blend in to the lower front guards.

Regards

No I didn't

I think the V8 was in it a long time ago as from my understanding it's been off the road for over 10 years.

I gave the car a coat of primer on the weekend to protect the metal.

Now she's all ready for the real repairs to begin.

Well I'm now thinking it was without a doubt a GTR and I also think if you clean the bog off them flares on the front guards you will find that they have been pop riveted to the original guard lips,, and way mate stick with it and remember its like any think you wish to work on in life all about the prep.

Cheers gong.

Matt, in my humble opinion, I reckon you've got a pretty good shell to work with, I'm sure other forum members have seen much worse over the years. Practice mig welding on some metal offcuts you have lying to get the hang of things and when it comes time to prep the shell (body filler, sanding, priming ect) start on something easy like a door, bonnet ect that has nice flat panels before tackling trick bits like rear 1/4's ect. You'll be amazed how much you will learn and improve over time. Good luck and as I said before you have a ripping shell to start with, Paul.

That should read "lying around". Try different settings, air flows and remember to have a nice clean earth (clean metal on section you are working on and every now and then file the jaws of the earth clamp clean) as I learnt pretty quickly that without a good earth, the welds are weak, inconsistent and tend to splatter. ( You want "sizzle" not "splatter).

Hi mate. What makes you think it was a GTR?

The guy I bought it off said it was but other people on this forum told me it wasn't?

Can you now see the GTR throttle linkage holes??

I've actually tried to look online to see what the extra 'GTR' holes look like but couldn't find anything.

It does appear to have the GTR spare tyre bracket in the boot.

I put a Holley on my LC 2 dr S model.

I bought the linkage bracket from the local Holden Dealer.

It had the holes for the linkage.

Does that then make it a GTR as well?

Was a pretty common thing to do back in the day.

At the end of the day it is all pretty easy to replicate.

Spare wheel retainer bracket

GTR badge holes on rear quarters

GTR stainless steel strip holes inside quarters and passengers door

None welded in guard flutes

On the passengers firewall just under lip they have taken of the GTR throttle pivot bracket

I understand that the drivers inner guards as been off at some time so as the passengers outer guard, but when putting a v8 in these cars it was a common thing to cut off or bend firewall lip for distributor clearance at the same time throttle bracket has to go,

69 model car, no holes for add tag, or have they been welded up ??? Another 69 point is the bump stop welded to the underside inner guard, but this did roll over to early 1970 as late as the 3 month I have seen them in.

I have a 1972 strike me pink GTR here with all the markings but with no tags, I also have a 1970 rally red GTR here with all the markings and no tags,,, I call this car 3 as it came with 3 original GTR seats 3 GTR rims 3 GTR metal door card tops 3 stainless steel GTR inner trims and last thing it was missing its 3 tags.

Anyways as said it can all be replicated.

Cheers gong

I know it doesn’t have the plates so it can never be proven it’s a GTR but it has some signs of being a GTR by the looks of it.

It won’t increase its value at all but just makes it a bit more special to me.

And it’s a bit more motivation for me to get it back on the road

I cut the front spoiler off it today.

It will look much better as the car looks lower and wider with the flares on it.

Below is the car I had back in the 90's, it was a genuine GTR as it model was 82911

It had flares on it too which is why I don't mind them on my current shell.

After a busy Christmas period it's time to get back into the LC.

Today I removed the door so I can cut out the sill and replace it.

What a prick of a job it is getting the door pins out! 7 hours later and it was done

I've started cutting away the sill but just need to work out the best way to tackle the area near the guard, so I'll have a think about that during the week.

I have also scored a transmission tunnel cut so I can replace mine as it has been butchered by a previous owner

Thanks mate

Does anyone know if you can buy replacement sections for the part in the photo below?

It's the section that the rear of the bonnet latch attached to.

All I have seen online is the full radiator support section, but I only need the top section.

Matt, I have a few panels ect left over from my build and was going to offer to forum members rather than throw in the scrap metal bin so you are more than welcome to have rad support if you want. Its a bit rough but if you only want top section may be alright. What was wrong with your one?. I'm in melb so you might have to get sent up, but I can cut down to make more manageable/freightable if that helps. If you can use any other panels in the photos let me know, pity your in Sydney, cheers paul

Guard to repair the rust behind the pilar.

Hi mate.

Yep, I'll have a look at that, just working on my welding and cutting skills first

Hi mate, that's very generous of you! You're a legend!

However I had another look at it today and I think if I just buy a replacement nose cone that will pretty much sort it out.

Cheers.

I also cut out the transmission tunnel today so I could replace the butchered gear shifter hole.
