With the tab fitted in behind the 1/4 window frame as pictured, or with the tab up the other end of the door sitting against the rear door frame?

Sorry Tony I don't quite follow what you mean by the sealing lip is mirrored but the rest of the strip is the same?
I compared the Rare Spares LC/LJ 2dr outer belt weatherstrips when they first produced them back in the early 1990's with the OEM weatherstrips and they were a very good copy.
This pic of your left hand door weatherstrip looks correct.
BTW the pic in the LC & LJ parts catalogues is of HB Torana. I don't believe the strip fits any differently in a HB compared to LC/LJ but the drawing gives the impression the tab of rubber at one end of the strip should go at the rear end of the door not at the door division channel.

Just had a look at an OEM left hand belt weatherstrip to refresh my memory and it looks exactly like the Rares left hand strip in your pic.

If you lay both strips on a table/floor etc with the lip that seals against the door glass touching the table/floor then the right hand strip looks the same as the left but the rubber tab is at the opposite end.
I will get a pic of both left and right strips later for you.

Some pics of OEM HB/LC/LJ/TA 2dr outer belt weatherstrips. They are used but I chose to use them as they still have contact cement on them where they glue to the metal of the door skin.
You can see the metal spine of one strip has partially rusted away.
These weatherstrips were purchased new from Eagers Holden in 1982 and were fitted to my LJ from 1982 to 1996.
Hope this helps you Tony
Cheers
Dave.

Thanks Dave.
To me, they're mirrored, or opposites. The last pic shows it best.
If you were to lay the 2 rare spares belts against each other like that they would fit into each other. Like spoons. Which make the left belt not fit as good as the left.
So going by my last pic you say the rares belts would be spooning. So in that senario would the rubber tabs be at the same end or opposite ends?

Same ends
Sounds like they gave you two L.H or two R.H strips?
In this pic the strip at the bottom of pic is for the left hand door.
Which of the strips in the pic best matches your left hand door strip?

Thanks for the pics Tony.
That weatherstrip looks correct to me and should fit a left hand door.
Could there be an issue with the mounting flange at the top inner of the door skin?
Is the left hand door wearing a genuine/original or aftermarket skin?

Can you put up a pic of the weatherstrip mounting flange on the RSP left hand door skin?
Sounds like the door skin is the problem not the weatherstrip.

Hard to tell much from those pics but in the second pic the top edge of the skin looks rather thick or bulbous where the metal folds over to form the inner flange. Maybe just an optical illusion.
