FWIW I was just reading another thread  "Paint grip 253" (sorry can't copy the link) and it refers to the browning of the metal as the reaction and not rust.  Interesting produt by the way.  Cheers Ron

I had this guard blasted about 4 months ago and coated with paint grip . It’s got a few scratches on it from being moved around but the scratches are still shiny metal too. Soon to be coated with epoxy , paint guy tells me run it back with a scotch pad then prepsol and paint

Thanks for the info guys was just thinking I'm doing something wrong because it kept coming up with a brown stain that looks like Flash rusting or surface rust.
From what everyone is saying I must have done it right the first time just weird how it looks that's all.

As Bomber said what you see is quite normal, . I've used both the KBS and POR versions and they both do the same thing. I think the websites even describe the brown rusty look. But if the steel was sandblasted you're far better just painting it straight away with the KBS, it sticks to the rough surface incredibly well, the rust blast is only needed to be used on rust or smooth clean shiny steel as it etches the surface for the KBS to attach to.
I just had 2 door shells minus skins blasted and picked them up and drove straight home and painted the inside with KBS satin on the fresh clean blasted surface, went on nice and smooth with a brush. Had a couple of little dents I didn't notice on bottom of door and gave them a few hits with a hammer and dolly and didn't even mark the KBS.

The white residue being zinc phosphate probably wont happen after blasting as most if not all of the zinc treatment would have been removed by the blasting process.

Try diluting the rustblast at 5:1 ratio. 5 parts water to 1 part Rustblast. Apply with a scotchbrite pad or 00 steel wool and leave on panel only for as long as reqd to remove the rust then rinse off with clean water and immediately dry the panel out with clean dry rags and compressed air.

Yeah I see that, I may have seen it on a youtube video or the KBS guy told me over the phone as I spoke to them a couple of times and remember that the brown stain or flash rust was normal, I got it everytime I used it on fresh steel, never tried it on the sandblasted stuff as I painted straight onto it. And the POR 15 stuff does exact same thing as I used it last time as I couldn't get any KBS

I even spoke with two different KBS distributors and they have both said to me that I have done something wrong to end up with Flash rusted / Brown stain on the steel. Don't know not worried anymore will just go back to doing it how I've always done it sandblast prepsol paint

Report the distributors to the mother company, they are  either not actually certified by the company or seriously undertrained. See if you can get some free swag for them leading you astray. 

I miss the old days of a rep being trade qualified, not a counter jockey with a piece of paper who can meet the kpi's so he holds a job. There lies some of the issues ! I'd just stick to sand blast, blow off prepsol & paint. Always works well. Gary.

blanket..maybe you used something other
than garnet and aluminium oxide 80-120 grit
Gaz.. i ended up using a scotch brite pad
to take the edge off the blasted area so i
could just clean dust off.

That's how mine came out and is how it's meant to look with an orange tinge in places.  As Bomber said, it was right the first time.

 

I rust Blasted my whole shell 4.5 years ago then painted and it still looks great.

You sure it's surface rust your getting or are you seeing the conditioning of the bare metal after the acid?
it leaves a gold coloured hue...
