Thanks mateIncredible work going into this car - just read your thread from start to finish - well done so far!
It's been a mission but loving the journey so far.
Front end will be built this weekend if all goes to plan.
More updates to come

Decided to weld washers over the k frame shock mount holes to reinforce them aswell.
Surprised how good Dad and I put it all together.
I'll get better photos in the sun when I can get a hand carrying it out of the garage.
Happy boy

Just a tip and I can't really see but the upper and lower control arm bush bolts/nuts shouldn't be tightened until the weight is back on them.

Having never compared the Preslite to the Lucas wiper motor, I guess they are the same drive system at the back?

I got no idea mate haha.Having never compared the Preslite to the Lucas wiper motor, I guess they are the same drive system at the back?
I'll send a photo of the back of it when I get home.
I saw one the same for sale on eBay for 400 + 25 postage
I got it for 50 bucks plus he reckons he tested it for me and it all works fine, 2 speed

My diff guy done a top job.
Die grinded the pinion gear where they are prone to crack to make stronger, lapped the gears for full contact
All new timken bearings in Diff etc
Installed my new 4 pin LSD centre and all new bearings on my axles.
All my suspension is complete now just about.
Gotta pipe up and get it down off the rotisserie asap

And am 100% building a 355 stroker motor for it.
I was going to just buy a running 304 and install that and then stroke later on but I know I won't be happy if I don't have a stroker from the get go so I'm going for it.
My engine guy has worked out that my M21 Muncie is no good for the motor we are building and my rear end set up with 355 gears.
First gear in the Muncie is 2.54 ratio and his worked out I need at least 3.2.
So I got a nice little delivery today.
I sourced a Borg Warner T5 box from a AU falcon Xr6. 3.25 1st gear and overdrive which I now agree is the way to go.
I always had my heart set on a 4speed torana.
Selling the muncie to a guy in Tassie so.its all happening
Gotta get the bottom sorted and get this thing rolling now asap

You might want to check the logic for your gear ratio choices - depending on tyre size a 2.54:1 first gear four speed will work great with a 3.55:1 diff and a healthy V8. Anything over 3:1 first gear is going to be easy to drive in traffic but make first gear useless for anything else. Having an overdrive is another matter of course, but the T5 won't be as robust.

He has worked out that a 355 stroker with 400-500hp with 15inch wheels and the 355 rear end that I wont be happy with 1st gear in the muncie. You might want to check the logic for your gear ratio choices - depending on tyre size a 2.54:1 first gear four speed will work great with a 3.55:1 diff and a healthy V8. I'm unsure how it is worked out mate

It's all about compromise and what suits the majority of the driving you do, nothing really to do with engine size or power (whether the gearbox will survive or not is a completely different question).
The 3.55:1 diff will give you better acceleration, but you also have to consider the "critical speed" of your driveshaft (which is unaffected by however many gears you have). The lower the gearing in the diff, the faster the driveshaft spins at any given road speed, if you spin it up to it's critical speed it will shake itself to pieces!
Plus, you have to consider what's called "half-critical speed", which is when the driveshaft harmonics may cause a vibration. You should design your tyre size versus diff gearing to avoid cruising at this half-critical driveshaft speed or you may get excessive wear and NVH.
The critical speed of any driveshaft changes with length, diameter and material composition, there are online calculators (such as: https://spicerparts....-rpm-calculator ) but roughly speaking, a (green) 4.2 V8 Torana shaft has a critical speed of 6548 rpm (and a ½ critical speed of 3274 rpm).
I can't remember what size your rear tyres are but assuming something like a 265/50R15 with a 3.55:1 diff ratio means your critical speed for the standard Torana driveshaft mentioned above would be 225km/h (140mph in the old money) and more realistically, the ½ critical speed would be at 112km/h. This is not good if you do a lot of freeway driving!
Again, however many overdrive gears you have makes no difference to these figures, it's a fixed gearing based on how fast the tyres turn the diff.
If you planned on using this particular driveshaft you would really need to raise the road speed at which you encounter this ½ critical speed, that means either shortening the shaft somehow (in other words going to a two-piece shaft with a centre bearing), or fitting a shaft with a higher critical speed (larger diameter / better material), or slowing down the shaft speed in relation to your road speed (bigger rolling diameter tyres or a higher diff ratio).
Then again, if you are never likely to drive at freeway speeds then you may never know the difference!

Its all new to me mate.
I gotta trust the guy doing the motor as he is the one with all of the experience and does it day in day out.
I don't have a tailshaft for my car the one given to me with the car I don't think I can use its not a V8 one and I was planning to get one made up as its pretty rat shit anyways.
Engine dude did mention to me that I'd be riding 1st gear to take off which is why I need a longer ratio.
I do plan on doing some cruises so the overdrive is a must.
I also did some calcs on how much it will cost me to get the muncie going as I need shifer, linkages, speedo, bell housing etc etc and it was going to cost me alot more than the t5 to get it going as well.

Carbon Fibre is good because it's strong and more importantly light weight, but I've read they don't suffer much abuse by way of stonechips or a light impact...

Had a mobile dustless blaster come to my place.
Got him to blast the bottom, the boot, the engine bay, around the door jambs, the inside of the nose cone and the inside of the fenders.
What a mission.
My neighbours absolutely hate me.
It was so so so loud hahaaa.
Knocks on the door complaining and all
So happy its all back to bare metal now.
Dad and I washed off all of the fish oil inside and rhe roof with degreaser and he high pressure washed down the whole car.
He then sprayed the entire car inside and out with Bonderite 253 rust protection.
Plan to hopefully finish up all small.repairs on underside next weekend and paint the bottom the week after
Gotta get her down and rolling asap
