SLR in the making

Did 6- 6pm.
Started by blowing down then wiping down whole car with thinners and masking up.
Dad came over about 830 to help which was awesome.
We threw the plastic over the car and ofcourse the wind picked up as soon as we started the plastic.
Got all the panels set up in the yard.
All wiped etc.
Started by doing 2 coats of epoxy on the engine bay to seal in the bog work.
Then we mixed up the high fill and sprayed 3 coats on everything.
7 litres of high fill.
It went on pretty smooth but the sun came out and it was very hot I have a little rough patch on the roof. I think its from over spray from the sides and the paint drying.
Nothing sanding cant fix im sure.
I won't be sanding it again thats for sure hahaa

So the plan now is car to the paint shop hopefully in 2 weeks when I get it all bolted back together and engine to the engine builders.
Making progress slowly.
Its a good feeling to know I don't have to sand it again hahaaa

Great work Mitch!
It's a great feeling getting it all into one colour of primer.
Hopefully the next steps go smoothly for you. I guess you've got some more mechanicals etc. to be tinkering with in the interim?

Mate i still haven't even finished the cluster/gauge set up haha.
Been too busy sanding off my finger tips.
I've brought alot of engine parts.
I got the 355 come stroker kit. 30thou pistons.
I have brought a set of edelbrock aluminium heads and I have a holley sniper all ready to go.
As soon as my car goes to the paint shop I plan to drop the block and all the parts over to get the engine started.
I have all the interior ready to too.
I finally sourced a good condition dash pad which is brown but plan to vinyl paint it black.
Slowly but surely
Cant wait for it to leave the garage so I can get rid of the dust
So over it bid hahaa

100% mate.Looking awesome, bet you can't wait for the colour to go on.
Im getting pumped now.
I just can't wait till I can get it out of the garage for a few weeks so I can clean it all out.
I need this dust out of my life.
There is a film on absolutely everything in there and all around my yard.
My neighbours have a pool next door and they absolutely hate me.
No waving hello any more at all.
They wont even look at me hahahaa

Have you thought of taking over an apology bottle of whatever they like?
it’s good to keep your neighbours on side.
Cos I’m the loud hoodlum in the street of pensioners and recent migrants I make the effort to mow all the neighbours nature strips when I’ve got the mower fired up. Plenty of friendly waves.

Thinks she owns the street and doesn't like anyone parking there car out the front of her house even if you are 2 spots back from her driveway she comes and complains.
I have a young baby and we have more rubbish than ever.
I waited till 12pm on bin night to go ans d check the bins to put one extra bag of rubbish in it and in the morning at 6am I come out my driveway on the way to work and she has removed it from her bin and placed it ontop of mine!!
Crazy she had 1 bag in there
No apology to her ever mate hahaa.

Maybe do some sandblasting for her too
Nice outdoor backyard paint job so far, great result.
Will you be doing the topcoats there too?
I painted a HR in a backyard once, there wasn't even grass!
Turned out ok

Many (many) years ago I met a guy who was doing panel work out of a dark dingy old shed in Port Kembla and the only thing he had in the way of a floor was crushed coal!
He reckoned he just used to water it down before he sprayed to settle the dust and 'she'll be right, mate'!
No idea whether he was licenced or not (more likely not) but this place made "T&T Towing" look like a clean room!
Hey Mitch, if the old girl next door loves ya now, how loud's the exhaust gonna be?

I hosed down the concrete drive way before I sprayed paint but it was such a hot day it didn't stay wet for long and the paint was flashing off as soon as it hit the car because the panels were hot from the sun. Many (many) years ago I met a guy who was doing panel work out of a dark dingy old shed in Port Kembla and the only thing he had in the way of a floor was crushed coal!

Its flush at the top but about 7 or 8mm lower at the bottom.
I've been looking at alot of photos of other toranas and there are alot out there like this.
I want it to be flush.
Should I cut it right off and extend it.
Any other ideas?
Cheers

If I move it down then the top isn't flush

I've learnt that mateAll flare kits require a bit of work to get looking good mate, plenty of people don't bother but you really notice the ones that do the extra work to line everything up.
Still playing with the rear flares. Now my OCD is kicking in about this too.

Or at least I think I do.
My car actually has a mild version of this problem also. But yours is a lot more severe, and I would definitely try and fix it.
My advice would be (if you haven't already, or it may already be good, hard to see in the photo) grind the inside of the spoiler so that it fits really snug around the front of the flare leg thing. This may make the problem slightly worse to begin with.
Then move the spoiler up, relative to the flare, so that they really hug one another tight. Clamp the two returns at the bottom together so you know there's no gap there.
The top edge will look super shithouse now. Then get your fibreglass kit out and fix the top. It's easier than re-working the bottom.
Also, the top edge of that flare leg looks a bit shit anyway so you may as well straighten it out at the same time as you make them lead into one another nicely.
Get some of that powder stuff that you can mix into fibreglass resin to make it thick, then use it like bog.

Yeah I'm going to fix it.
I can't leave it, it will do my head in.
I don't want to touch the front spoiler if you remember from past photos I had the car on car stands and laser lined it into place so it is in perfect line with the sills.
The tops do need some attention.
As do the front indicators as they look shit house alignment aswell.
More work than first thought

I think you would be better off modifying the bottom end of the front spoiler. Sand back to about half thickness and make some strategic long thin pie cuts from the lower rear edge. Mask the flare, fit the spoiler and using it as a mould laminate multiple layers of cloth over the pie cuts and use masking tape to hold it tight against the masked flare. When the resin is gelled you can carefully peel off the tape or leave it until resin is cured and sand off when feathering the repair.
