Unsure of what to call this but really wish I could find how to fix it, hopefully you can see the problem with the pictures, the problem is on the roof as you can hopefully see, it’s as if it were stretched because I can push on the problem spot and it moves straight back to where it’s meant to be, if these pictures don’t help I’ll definetly take more tomorrow, thanks

My Gemini went a bit funny in the roof there after I jumped it.

we used to by heating small spots with oxy then hitting with hammer and dolly

long process, lots of spots

I've used a mig to shrink areas as well if that's all you have access to.

Just digging up this old post. How did you get on getting that dent out of your roof.

I’ve got a similar issue on mine.

It looks like big dents in a couple of spots, like your photo. I can push it up into the right shape but it’s like there is no guts to the roof and if I give it a tiny push from the outside it depresses again.

From the underside of the roof all the deadener has or is flaking off. I’m not sure if this also was meant to provide some extra rigidity to the roof.

Keen to hear others experiences or solutions.

You need to shrink the dented bits back to where they were. When they are dented the sheet stretches. Heat with oxy and quench with a damp rag until they pull in to shape.

The deadener flaking of is either irrelevant to the issue, or maybe the metal has moved enough underneath it that the more brittle deadener has lost its bond to the roof.

 

Either way, remove the deadener and re-apply a peel-and-stick type product after you've done your repairs, and before you put your headliner back in.

 

If the material is a little low and it doesn't stay in the convex position (it just springs back in when you tap it down), that is called "oil-canning" and it happens from that area being "bigger" than the area around it. So it wants to buckle out one way or the other. You want to shrink it, whether you use a torch or a shrinking disc etc.

That deadening material has asbestos in it so tread appropriately.

Nice. Thanks guys. Great starting point.

I’ve seen a couple of posts on here about re doing the deadening. I’ll need to do some more research on that too. Seems there are a few varying recommendations/pit falls.
