Progress! After a couple of weeks of low motivation and working 50 hours a week, I've finally got stuck back into the LJ. I've got a good mate who is a qualified painter and 3rd year apprentice panel beater, and I've finally convinced him to help me get the Torry on the road. This dude is an absolute perfectionist, he beated and painted his 180SX metallic black when he was 17 and it was faultless.

He's not letting the LJ out of the shed until he is happy with it, so I can't wait to see the result. I know I'm cheating a bit by getting a professional in to do it for me, but I just don't have the required skills, and I'm gunna help him do it.

Anyhoo, pretty much the whole car is gunna get a skim of filler because there are that many little dents over the whole car that there is really no other choice.

We are gunna be working on it every night for the next few weeks, so progress should happen pretty quickly.

Sorry for the essay.

Tim

Sounds good mate! No harm in cheating! You will be learning along the way as well!

Just means you can take more progress pics for us!

Great to hear it Tim, looking forward to plenty of progress pics soon. :clappin:
Sounds like a reasonable option considering the circumstances, and I'm sure you will learn plenty from him.

Just spent a couple of solid hours on it, and got the bonnet mostly stripped (gotta go back to bare metal, the paint underneath is a bit dodgy), the roof and right rear quarter guide coated and rubbed back, ready for fine fill and primer, and the top half of the front right guard primed.

Still needs blocking back and a skim of fine filler over a couple of bits, but it looks pretty alright to me.

Not cheating at all if it's a mate and you helping out and learning the tricks yourself and having a go too. It's the best way of making good quality speedy progress as it's damb hard maintaing the enthusiasm contantly grinding away by yourself. Watch things move at a rapid rate now working at it together even if he is fussy.

Don't worry Heath, we'll be doing plenty of guide coating.

Josh, we are doing all of the prep work in my shed then towing the car to his workshop for the final paint... Going 2K, I don't have much choice.

Cheers for all of the comments and encouragement guys, it makes it heaps easier when I know that people are appreciating my work.

Cheers guys. No progress over the weekend, I am going to Adelaide to check out the All Torana Day. Hope to catch up with a few.

Mate, inspiration isn't the word. Saw a few cars there yesterday that really got me thinking. And I got plenty of close up photos of a few bits that are questionable on my car for some guides. Probably looked like I was taking pics of tags for a while, I needed a few pics of the radiator support etc etc :P

Sometimes in life things just don't go the way you want them to. Over the last couple of weeks my mate and I made a good bit of progress, the entire right side of the car is primed, damn near ready for paint. We are going to get the whole car to this stage before we do a final guide coat and block back.

The plan was to start on the other side of the car this week, and at some point over the next month spend a solid week on it (we both have a couple of weeks holidays).

That was the plan until something tragic (personally, nothing to do with the Torana) happened on the weekend, so the next few weeks will be spent with family and friends.

RIP Murphy, only the good die young.

Tim

(Sorry for the sob story, I'm still in disbelief about what happened so I'm trying to find ways to comprehend. Talking to people helps. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Summer, please take care on the roads.)

Cheers boys, I appreciate the kind words.

Chris, it was my little cousin, he died in a motorbike accident on Friday night. The hardest bit for me at the moment is that he and his family lived in Queensland, and we down here in SA only saw them once every few years. They had been planning for the last year or 2 to come down this Christmas, arriving next weekend... The family are still coming down, but it's gunna be a pretty hard few weeks...

Sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your families.
Xmas is always an emotional time for families normaly without having to have this happen so close. When they come down, celebrate the good times and memories and try not to get too down.
