A couple of minutes after first starting it up yesterday it developed a big rattle and a backfire... Whipped the rocker cover off today and diagnosed the issue pretty quickly!

After sorting all of the rockers out, she now runs and idles and sounds goooood. Did some digging and found it has a Crow 35665 cam, which looks to be chunky enough for what I want.

Next step is getting the interior back together, sorting brake lines out and getting the diff built.

Would have been going pop pop out the carb? Is the lock nut tight on the thread? Would have to be pretty loose to do that.

Yeah she was going pop pop alright! The nut must not have been tight... It started up fine initially, then obviously worked it's way loose. Sorted now!

Could just be the pic but do you have the engine mounts on the right way?

I think you may be onto something there mate... I didn't notice it before I took that pic either.

I'll have a look.

Nah, just the angle of the pic...

The extractors do sit pretty close to the outrigger(?) on the crossmember, but the gearbox yoke is central between the tunnel and the front of the block is the same distance from the chassis rails as Bomber Watson's LJ...

I ordered all of the bits I need to make brake lines this afternoon, I'll get stuck into that when they arrive next week.

I have to

Pull the diff out and drop it off to get built
I'll make the tailshaft when I go home next weekend, and round up a set of Falcon stockies to get it rolling until I get my Mawers built
Make brake lines
Finish sorting out the handbrake, once the diff is back in
Fit the new steering coupling
Put the doors back together
Fix the glovebox, fit the new shifter boot
Sort the stereo out
Seats in, steering wheel on

Drive the frOcking wheels off it.

Bought a set of 195/50R15 Bridgestone RE71S semi slicks today, and dropped the diff off to be put together.

I'll get my tax back next week and order the Mawer centres, then I can work on getting them together.

Pretty happy with progress!

Wheels are ordered!

Hit a little hurdle, the P76 front rotors need a 71.5mm centre bore, the Falcon diff is 70.5. I'm having 1mm machined off the front rotors so that the Mawers seat properly on both ends, and so I can use a Falcon wheel as a spare.

Rob, yeah I probably could've just hit them with a flap disc but when I'm spending this much on brakes and wheels I thought I'd better do it properly.

Belly, the Mawer centres are from Showster wheels

I finally got the front end properly bolted together last night.

One of the lower shock mount plates had 3/8 captive nuts, the other had 5/16...

Still need to make some shim blocks for the upper control arms.

Almost finished making brake lines, I've added a Wilwood proportioning valve into the rear lines and cleaned up the original master cylinder and distribution block.

Also been working on polishing the old Simmons lips... Next time I will absolutely be buying brand new, but these will do me for now

Got the last piece of the front brake puzzle done today. Heath had a couple of surplus 90° fittings to get these Wilwoods hooked in. I bought them, and a couple of female flare nuts, bent a little line and things were looking gooood.

Then Bomber pointed out that I'd need a bracket to hold the brake hose, so I welded a bracket to the caliper bracket and now we're cooking!

My centres arrived today! A quick dummy fit to make sure everything lines up and I'm very impressed.

I bought a Celica-Falcon yoke from Dellow (tip - the V8 one is $20 cheaper than the identical 6 cyl yoke) and today I picked up a steel EL Falcon tailshaft.

I'll drop the tailshaft off at Hardie Spicer on Monday to get it shrunk to fit the LJ, and then the drivetrain is complete!

Turns out the Dellow yoke is to suit pre-EA Ford unis, which aren't the same as the post-EA unis. Hardy Spicer sorted it out, tailshaft is now complete and back under the car waiting for the diff, which apparently will be done this weekend.

I've been working through a list of little jobs...

Got the front brakes finished
Bumpers are off, new ones ready to go on,
Doors are back together, door trims on
Shifter boot is on
Vacuum advance sorted

Got a few more bits to sort out tomorrow, then once the diff is back I can get it in, tailshaft in, make some brake lines and BAM! Rego time.

I'm very very excited

Got a few more bits done today... Rear bumper is on and polished, I touched up the blackouts in the taillights, front bumper is almost on and I fixed the glovebox.

Also got keen and stuck my repro dealer sticker on, super happy with this little touch!

Diff is in, rear suspension is in, the wheels fit, brakes will go on tomorrow and I'll make brake lines on Sunday.

We're very very close here.
