Got the rear calipers on. Because they're a slide caliper, I just have to get a couple of little hoses made to go between the caliper and the hard line on the diff. Did some measuring and scribbling last night, I'll hopefully get something made today after work.

I've found a set of 15" steelies to get it rolling for the time being while I get the Mawers sorted, just need to clean them up, give em a squirt of black and get some tyres on.

Little hoses made! Need to sort out some brackets to secure them to the diff, and bend up the hard lines.

A few pics of progress over the last few weeks

Attached File  received_494684318304579.jpeg   63.04K   6 downloads

I didn't need the big M20 shifter hole any more so I bent up a bespoke aluminium blister to cover some excess hole.

Attached File  received_165534215566951.jpeg   65.94K   8 downloads

The engine bay has had a quick clean up with some rattlecan black. At some point I will do a proper engine bay resto, with hidden wiring and relocated battery etc etc, but for now I just tidied it up.

Attached File  received_149519960721192.jpeg   37.71K   6 downloads

Had some dramas with these spring insulators until I found some ~10mm longer bolts... Straight in.

And a while ago I found a set of bumpers that are in heaps better nick than the set I had. Not pristine, but the chrome is in good nick and there's only a couple of little dings.

I fitted and polished the rear, which made the taillights look shit, so I touched up the blackouts and generally cleaned them up as well.

Ha ha - nothing like putting new bits on to make hitherto okay bits look utterly rubbish. Looks great!

Another little hurdle, the closed wheelnuts I bought didn't fit over the long studs on the rear, so I hit 10 of them with my handheld 5" lathe and give em a squirt of brake paint... Sorted!

Got it down off jackstands for the first time in a couple of years... Happy with the wheels, but I need to lose some ride height.Attached File  received_4543554275725153.jpeg   47.1K   9 downloadsAttached File  received_581498136637061.jpeg   60.25K   7 downloads

Got her properly on all 4 wheels today. Happier with the ride height, I'll get it on the real wheels with smaller tyres and see how we look.

Got the last couple of brake line brackets welded onto the diff too, now I just need to make the hard lines to go across the diff and the brake system will be complete!

I bent up these brake lines for the diff, and went to fit them...

The little hoses I had made the other day have metric fittings, and I only had imperial flare nuts 😭 I didn't realise until after I had flare both ends, but luckily I had enough length in the pipes to cut the flare off and redo it without starting from scratch.

While I was at Power Brakes today I grabbed a new body-diff hose as well, just so that the whole system is new.

Pretty happy with these little brake lines now!

Guess who put the rear calipers on upside down? Too late to change it now, I'll just do some bush mechanic shit to bleed them.

The car moved under its own power yesterday! Got tyres fitted to the stockies and filled the diff and rolled it forward 100mm. Stoked!

Got the front bumper on this morning and greased the front end. I'll get the brakes bled this weekend and get the seats and steering wheel back in then it's REGO TIME!

Good luck but unless you’re going to turn the axle upside down or relocate the bleed holes on the car, it ain’t going to work Tim. Prove me wrong.

Good Point. I guess swapping them means new hose brackets, new hoses?

New hoses, yeah, and I've just spent a perfectly good greenback on these ones!

I'll call it a lesson.

Brakes are bled, and the car is out of the shed under its own power.

Plenty of little bits to get done though!

A couple of quick snaps, the first time it has seen the outside of the shed for over two years.

Cheers gents!

It's just such a perfectly 70s colour... If this car wasn't originally Purr Pull I would've painted it March 17th Green, but I love it as is.

Got the mirrors in yesterday, should get time tonight to start putting the seats back in.

Chasing some brake dramas, my front brakes and the rear right were locking on.

Turns out I didn't remove the little valve out of the front circuit in the master (was originally a drum front), which explains the front dramas.

As for the rear, I'm not sure. I think the problem is at the caliper end though.

Also gave the steelies a quick squirt of satin black to have it looking half respectable while I finish building the Mawers

Long story short, the LJ is back on the road!

I need to find heeeaps more brakes, I have a new master cylinder on the way.

And I need a wheel alignment, and I'll look into getting the rear springs reset a touch lower.

Very very happy with how it has done together as a whole, though.

You bought your LJ wayyyy back in 2006, the same time as I took my SS off the road (to to do a 2 year refresh).

You've beaten me across the resto finish line, and sadly I'm no where near complete.

Enjoy your new drive Tim!!
