It is a really tight fit, as in, it just sorta crams in there.

Thanks guys, I think I might just put the blanking plate in, and have the HU in the console.

postal_dood, I haven't got the wheels yet, theyre just what I want.

I got some thinking and some Bodywork done today :)

Rear quarter before -

During -

and After -

Its not finished yet, obviously, but atleast we have the metal covered.

and now, to the thinking part. I measured up the front seats in my cousin's Toyota Soarer. They're 550 wide x 600 long on the base, and 930 from the bottom of the base to the top of the headrest. A standard LJ Seat is about 550x550 base, and about 880 tall. The Soarer seats are bloody narrow, but really supportive and comfy. Sam reckons they can be picked up for about $100/pair, and come in either Electric or Manual.

Posted Image

Unfortunately, Dad's not keen to install a set

And, the rest of the thinking went into the electrics. The tacho has been pissing me off, it jumps straight to full revs as soon as you start the car, and stays there wether you accelerate or not. It is all wired up properly, so the gauge itself must be screwed...

Next bit of thinking - Because I have 'Huge plates'o meat', My foot doesnt fit real well between the Clutch pedal and the trans tunnel, which is where the high beam switch lies. I am thinking of relocating the switch to the console, when I build it. Simple job, really, just need to sort out a suitable switch.

Cheers, Look forward to feedback.

Good to see you're bringing it back to it's former glory :)
Not sure about the seats - if you take out the seats you'll see the floor doesn't sit level on both sides - I would think the soarer ones probably will. Won;t be a problem if you install the non electric ones because you can just use the LJ's runners. I'm sure you know the high beam switch is just 2 selftappers and could be moved anywhere by extending the wires.

I wasn't planning on using the 'lectric ones. They weigh a bloody tonne! 7 motors in em...

Yes, I know that the high beam switch is only screwed in with 2 screws. I'd hardly even have to extend the wires!

I must admit the VX SS ones I have in my hatch are heavy - they only use two motors for all the tilting and raising though...

Today I had a bit of a play around in the boot...

Started with this -

Posted Image

and figured that the box on the left hand side would be a waste of space. I was gunna use that to keep the Jack, oil, wheel brace etc in. Instead, I used my geniusness and came up with this:

EITHER - Cut the spare wheel well out of a shell and weld it into the LHS boot floor, and use it as a toolbox.

OR - Fabricate a similar sized box out of sheetmetal and weld it into the LHS boot floor, creating a toolbox.

What do you guys reckon? Will there be any legal violations in doing this? I won't be cutting into the chassis or anythin, just cutting a hole probably 200x300 in the boot floor.

RIM are you sure you wired up your tacho correctly because it sounds like you have attached the coil wire up to the positive side of the coil rather than the negative.

Rim, Are you planning on going gas? Cause that space you have 'whited' out at the front of the boot would be taken up with the gas tank.

Peter UC, The Tacho is wired up to the coil properly. I though I might've got it the wrong way too, but it's definitely right.

Steve, Gas is for BBQ's, not Torana's...

Cheers guys.

Nah, If it was an LH/LX I'd run it on LPG... From what I've seen, Gas bottles don't fit too awesomely in LC/LJ Boots...

The car's coming along nicely RIM but you certainly create some work for yourself.

I'd just keep the boot standard, keep the LJ on petrol, put the radio head unit in the console and keep the original seats (just get them retrimmed). Will save alot of money and effort.

Cheers Mick.

Why would I want to get the seats retrimmed? They're in near perfect condition!

I know I create alot of work for my self, it's because I spend too much time thinking about the car and not enough time working on it (and there's SFA I can do about that ATM...)

I want to atleast weld a box into the boot for tools. Piss easy to do (famous last words), as far as I can see it, and will create a neater boot.

Oh, and we've decided that it won't be near ready for my P's

Apologies, I thought your trim was pretty good. I should have said get the seats re-shaped (if you want them like racing seats).

Keep up the good work.

Mick.

Nah, that'd be more effort and cost than bolting a set of Soarer seats in.

Maybe when I put a 1JZ/2JZ in it, I'll drop a set of Soarer seats in. Or is that getting too Toyota-ish?

I'll be able to drive it on my P's... It just won't be ready in September, when I GET my P's...

It was registered before I started pulling it down. I couldve left it how it was, and drive it around like it was. But that's just dodgy. I don't want to rush it just so I can have it ready for my P's, and I just won't have the time between now and September to do it! I'll be home for a total of about 70 days between now and September.

Tell me about it... But it sure eases the pain at the fuel pump I will tell you that. I love the fact it only cost me at most $35 to fill a tank, and thats good for around 500ks :tease: :tease: :tease:
