I'm looking at what to do as far as ignition for a red 253 in my LH.
Getting hold of an actual Bosch HEI in decent condition might be a bit of a challenge so I'm considering converting the points dizzy to a breakerless one with a PerTronix 1885 Ignitor.
It's instructions mention that it's only compatible with a points style coil with at least 1.5 ohms on the primary coil.
I was going to use a Bosch HEC716 which is what's used with the Bosch HEI dizzys so now I'm not sure that coil would be compatible with the Pertronix module.
Has anyone got a HEC716 laying around that they can test the resistance of?
If it's in the 1.5 ohm or greater range I might give one a go.
From PerTronx -
- The Ignitor is designed for 12-volt negative ground systems.
- The Ignitor is compatible only with a “resisted style” coil. Eight cylinder engines require a minimum
of 1.5 ohms of resistance. Six & four cylinder engines require a minimum of 3.0 ohms of resistance. - If your Ignition coil has the proper primary resistance, remove or bypass all external resistors.
Do not remove resistors if the coil primary resistance is lower than specified.
Any help appreciated
