Hey all, just wanted to check, did both the preslite and lucas wiper motors come in all models from LH-UC? did it just depend on where they were built or is it a date thing?

Aside from the odd prototype I believe all LH & LX were built in the same factory in Melbourne?

According to the parts catalogs, both units were fitted to all LH & LX (I don't have a UC catalog) and all luxury levels and there's no mention of any selection criteria whatsoever.

I can only assume it was whatever was available (or cheaper) at the time?

Actually on that note, do any other cars use the same wiper motor?

The Torana unit is different to the big Holdens and I'm not sure what else was in local production at the time? Were Gemini's made here or just an imported and re-badged Isuzu?

Investigating further now that I have the later manuals, it appears the Preslite was dropped sometime during the LX production, later LX and UC list the Lucas motor as the only option (part number unchanged).

Gemini's are different.

Good tip about the UC but im guessing you could fit a Preslite in place of a Lucas and many probably have been

FWIW, 11/76 LX with Lucas wiper motor.  I assume it's original.  Cheers Ron

I have two 2/77 LX’s and both run the Lucas, funny thing is all the A9X’s I’ve seen had the Preslite. I would be interested to know if the Preslite was an A9X specific item.

My 9/77 untouched Hatch has a Preslite wiper motor.
I’m told it was built alongside A9X’s but it certainly isn’t one!
