Looks fantastic, good luck with the engineering and look forward to seeing it, probably at a coffee and chrome. Cheers

Hi Brad,

had the tow truck on the street ready to start the car just as the clutch would  pedal all the way up pushed when the stalled.

I turned up the motor about 5 times with the stalled each time.

The electrical thinks there is an earth that's not 100% touching.

I have started up every other time since with the clutch effected.

Luck the tow truck wasn't loading would have cost $750 cost.

Regards Mando.

Bugger. Get it sorted and then get it done. It will be so worth it on the day you drive out with plates on it.

Wow , so close now Mando, the little things are frustrating so close to the end but it’s all worth it. Still looking forward to seeing it. Cheers

Hi Laurie,

that's if the weight of the engine might lifter the guards up dent's.

Regards.

I'm no expert Mando, but I am wondering if it's too big a risk supporting an engine with that section of the guards/engine bay... I can see the gearbox crossmember would take some of the weight off the whole lot, but yeah, there's not much more than sheet metal in that area and the guards aren't flat. Can you support the main brace off the ground instead? Or pop off the bonnet and support the engine from above with an engine crane or the like? I'd hate to see those beautiful panels rippled up - happy to be wrong, but I can't not say something. :-)

Have done similar with a 202 a few times, no dramas. Rags, cardboard and little timber spacers ( not as nice a set up as Mando's, but did the job). I think that area of the guards has enough folds and welds to make it quite strong.
That said, our paintwork isn't as nice as that Hatch's!

Sam,

I am going to put a prop under the bell housing.

The only way I can think is to remove the belt, pulley and  harmonic and a use a longer bolt use another prop.

My mechanic  "SHOULD" be work.

Col used is exactly what you did.

I hope will weight the motor being all aluminium.

Regards.

I don’t like the risking all the weight on the guard lips thing either
I ripped the sump off my engine while in the car (only a 202, though)
Jacked it up with a big flat hunk of wood under the sump, and
jammed a pair of strong (and safe) big enough bits of wood
in the engine mount gap then lowered it back down

I might be able to used the timbers if I have some space.

I will see what I can do.

Regards.

Yeah agreed it could totally work, but on a car the level of this one, I reckon supporting the weight with something other than the guards/engine bay is worth doing, to take out the maybes. Just my opinion of course.

Supporting the bellhousing as you mentioned is defo a great option and should be enough. It's just the "should" bit. 😬

I bolted some plates to the front of the engine that rested on my front sway bar bracket then when I had the cross member completely out I put jack stands under the sway bar  bracket.

Hi Bruce,

looks like you got it done lucky.

I wasn't looking the winch at the tow truck that used the sway bar bent up the brackets, all he needed was to do use the lower arms.

I'm not touching the bar or brackets.

I'm still not damaging the guards unless I longer the bolt into the harmonic.

Regards.

I have taken the sump off the holden V8 in the old LX sedan a few times.

Jacked the car up and used stands. Then supported the gearbox with a jack and the harmonic balancer with a wooden block on a jack.

Dropped the K frame a little by loosening the 4 big bolts that go through the front rails.

Jack the engine and gearbox up enough to touch the top of the trans tunnel.

This was plenty of room to get the job done, even with the High Energy sump it had on it.

Hi Rexy,

after you loosening the 4 big bolts and the K frame starts  to low.

Did your riggers are still bolted and the frame begins angle get's enough room get the sump .

Regards.
