Is this the same shell? Fitted well back then?

Maybe the entire nose cone, guards and bonnet need to be shuffled backwards a bit which will in turn bring the latch closer to the radiator support?

It all needs to work forward of the cowl. How is the gap between the cowl and the bonnet?

Yep, you need to fit/gap all the panels without the latch fitted to the bonnet, then adjust the latch so it closes without altering the gaps.

You do know the latch on the bonnet is adjustable, don't you Mando?

I can see the slot in yours under the bolt head so it must have a fair bit of backward adjustment left in it.

It’s got a lip though that limits rearward movement. You could always trim that off.

Maybe it’s parallax error but it looks like the top of the radiator support is bowed backwards in the centre?

Love the colour!

Brad / Laurie / Hanra,

the gaps all around the bonnet are good.

The shell in your post Brad is the first body I had which was stolen.

This is a picture of my second car which is the orange one you see below.

Rexy,

I could mill the lip from the bracket but I decided my solution was going to be easier.

Andrew,

I had those holes elongated, a little to much as you can see.

The bracket is hard up against the bonnet.

Im thinking the guards need to shuffle rearward a little to allow the nosecone to also move back a tad. Then you may be left with the 3mm or so gap that the finger guard would have taken up.

Brad,

the radiator support probably has a slight 2 mm bow in the centre.

The bolts on the left and the right of the front panel went through the front panel

and into the radiator support without touching the sides of the holes.

The bolts on the far left and right also went through the front panel through the holes

in the guards and into the radiator support without any interference what so ever.

2 mm from the guards being to far forward, 3 mm for the thickness of the finger guard

add another 2 mm from the radiator support have a slight bend in it gives me 7 mm

which are the size of my spacers.

My head is starting to hurt.

Regards Mando.

The fan finger guard is 3mm thick.

But in saying that. It sort of kicks forwards at the top. Which prob moves the bonnet latch another 1-2mm forward.

As you can see it can all fit without the finger guard or a spacer. As long as the car is all gapped nicely it doesn’t really matter much.

You could try bending the radiator support forward, they aren’t very stiff.

If the aesthetics bother you, you could always modify the striker (easy) or the latch (harder). No one would ever notice the striker plate mod.

Thanks Brad,

your plate measures 11.7 cms at the top and mine measures 11 cms at the top.

There's my 7mm right there.

I have two plates from two different cars and they measure the same.

Brad,

I understand what your saying regarding gaps, but my car has consistent gaps throughout including around the doors and bonnet,

even though I specifically asked the panel guy to leave the gaps the way they came and not make them perfect.

I wanted the car to look like it would have when it was made in the seventies, with orange peel paint finish

and gaps that look normal, but no where near perfect.

Regards Mando.

If you could find and fit a fan guard then you'd only need 4mm spacers and you could paint 'em black and put 'em between the radiator support and the fan guard... In other words, you'd be lucky to even tell they were there!

I would like to install a fan guard Andrew, I really like how they look.

My problem is the fan guard would not look right due to the twin thermos against the radiator.

The spacers I had made are not my first choice,

but when you look from the front of the car you can hardly notice them.

Regards Mando.

The spacers look fine, I wouldn't fret any further about it if you can get everything to bolt up and gap up nice with them, just leave it I reckon.

So with the spacers fitted, does the bonnet still not latch down?

Nice. Just leave it as is. Looks fine as is. Or fit a fan guard with smaller spacers.

Looks great to me, I do agree with Clay I recon Heath would do some drillium, engineer a double fan guard also with drillium and some technical fandangleism.
Haha 😂
By the way I noticed street machine got onto to you Heath everyone looking at your fine work.
Great work Marty can’t wait to see this thing lighting up the Adelaide streets. Cheers.

HI Jeff,

What brand of the sway bar you're using for the rear and front?

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe,

I'm fairly sure they were K-Mac.

I made new brackets for the front.

The welding and painting weren't the best, and I had the bars powder coated.

Regards Mando.
