~ the only "no brainer" application for flex pipes would be in an application where the motor is east-west as its torque-reaction is on a totally different plane to the direction of the exhaust.
Do the exhaust mounts closer towards the front of the car have more freedom of movement than the rear ones? (I think at least that would be recommended!)
^ What he said! I hate flex-pipes myself, but they are sometimes a necessary evil.
However, if the front half of your system is as Heath says and has 'proper' exhaust hangers, then it would be far easier to mod the tailpipe mounts to allow some more movement rather than fit some kind of flexible joint. I mean, if you did add flex-pipes then you'd need to solid-mount the mufflers too, otherwise you have the same problem!
The problem occurs over time, if you take a piece of steel and clamp one end in a vice, then constantly move/vibrate the other end, it will eventually (and prematurely) crack.
The only time I'd use flex-pipes in this situation is if you're REALLY tight on space going over the diff and/or past the tank, then you could solid-mount the rear half of the system and, with your heat wrap and maybe some extra shielding, you could almost have it hard up against the floor.
