Hi All, it's been ages since I've been on here and I've missed a few messages so apologies to Bazza & xu2308. (And thanks for your information you provided at the time!)

I was wondering if anyone may have more information regarding my 72LJGTR. I've owned since 1995 but i'm unfortunately missing the Body ID tag which shows trim and colour etc. Any extra help or information someone may have about this car would be appreciated. Have painted it twice since 1995 and I believe the best place to search for original colour may be the boot hinges? Has had a new front end at some stage in it's life so no point in the engine bay but perhaps under heater box? Help please!!

Details of car as follows:

Production date = 10/4/72
Series = LJ
Model = 82911 ( 82911JL199308 is on I.D TAG )
Production serial no. = 199308
Body no. = ALJ 03533A
Trans serial no. = 0358650 ( I think? )
Engine no. = Not listed
Seller Code = 000

Thanks Everyone!

Ha ha you're right people, the mirrors are a shocker (Cortina??)

Will get some paper out and give it a rub in some areas when I get a chance. Does anyone know from the bare metal, which primer layers etc I am looking for prior to paint colour  etc?

Cheers

Yep, pretty much, but it's red oxide, then light grey primer, then colour. On the "outside"

Thanks for this,

I have been in contact with Alan (xu2308) regarding trying to find out more information about the car. I am hoping to establish the original registration number through Vic Roads which should hopefully tell us more....

Black Etch ?

On the outside panels they're red oxide & yes they can have some black. It's not like the single pack etch around now though. The thing to remember is, the steel is now over 45 years old. Epoxy etch of some brand IS necessary to chemically treat the steel. & we no longer have lead.
