Beautiful work Marty.

Thanks Stu

love your standard of workmanship    :)

Cheers Albert

Marty, going by your perfectionism and attention to detail, your star sign must be Virgo! Great work and progress, you'll be finished before my car is even on the road!! LOL

Better give-up fortune telling Paul. I'm a Pisces.

What are star signs?

lol

Cheers

Rob

Exactly!

I need to make room so I'm clearing out the rust. Here's what's been cut out so far. This is 90% but there will be more little bits to come.

Hi Rob,

I'm still reluctant to take to the tip, just incase I need a bit or reference a shape.

So it's all piled up in the front garden bed to attract the snakes and rust away.

Progress has slowed but hope to get back into it soon.

One thing I have sorted is all the bits for the Rat Trap.  Out of all these bits I only just had the correct bits, so many differences in the parts. Most of it is probably off other models of Holden.

I used the parts diagram, pics of my LJ trap and the LJ trap for guidance.

Most of that lot is HK/T/G components mixed and matched with LC/LJ Torana bits.

Looks like you have a couple of M20 shift rods in there too Marty.

I stripped all the traps and used all the best correct bits to make up one set. Next will be restoring it at some stage.

Well spotted with the M20 rods Dave. Not much gets past you.

Thanks Gene but I have a full set now.

Not much happening for a while there due to other things to focus on.

Finished off the floor panels.

Decided to clean up the distributer I got with my re-conditioned engine. On the receipt it said this was reconditioned but that only means new points and condenser to these guys.

Pull the guts out and found it very mucky.

Cleaned and lubed it up and put it all together.

Hi Guys,

Hope to get the guards on soon but just doing a few more repairs before that happens.

Attached File  IMG_2634.jpeg   56.77K   7 downloads

I got hold of another Rares repair panel. This one is from 10 years ago and has much better lines so hopefully I can get it to fit. Used a piece from the crap panel to repair the good guard.

I know a couple of 1980's panel beaters who would have left the welding at this point and gone straight for the bog.

Evening gents.

Well I finally grew some balls and welded the front guards and nose cone on. It's been a long time from first fit-up to now but I'm very happy with it. I've still left the bottom of passenger guard off and that can be done later.

I'll grind all the welds back and you'll never know.

I've had heaps of 'likes' so been cranking out the progress.

I have a dilemma!

I want to get the car on a rotisserie but my garage isn't long enough for it. So not wanting to be beaten by this challenge I looked for ideas, then I noticed I have two brick pillars that could be used as end supports

I did a heap of research on our forum and googled other rotisserie ideas to come up with something that could work.

Attached File  IMG_3167.jpeg   55.09K   4 downloads

I spent $90 on steel. This picture shows the first $60 worth.

Attached File  IMG_3176.jpeg   54.07K   5 downloads

50 x 7mm flat bar tapped to suit.

Attached File  IMG_3177.jpeg   54.35K   6 downloads

Slowly working through ideas in my head.

Attached File  IMG_3178.jpeg   84.04K   5 downloads

Fixing to rear boot catch.

Attached File  IMG_3179.jpeg   45.55K   6 downloads

Spacing out the rear bar.

Attached File  IMG_3180.jpeg   85.91K   5 downloads

Bolted through with washer.

Attached File  IMG_3190.jpeg   54.45K   5 downloads

The front bit takes shape. I made an adjustable pivot because I wasn't sure on balance point.

Attached File  IMG_3191.jpeg   61.64K   5 downloads

Getting the rear section square to car is important because I'll have limited flex being secured to brick-work.

Attached File  IMG_3189.jpeg   58.76K   5 downloads

I had jacked the car up level (spirit level on sills) before levelling the rear mount.

Attached File  IMG_3197.jpeg   57.7K   7 downloads

I read that the rear panel of car can flex when mounted like this so I added a brace to parcel shelf.

You can see the hole marks on brick pillar where the plate will mount. I used a laser level to get level mounting points on both pillars.

Attached File  IMG_3198.jpeg   65.28K   4 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3200.jpeg   62.74K   4 downloads

Greasing it up for it's final insertion then once both plates are on I'll slide the car across in-between the pillars and bolt it up.

Sally is worried the pillars and garage will fall down but I think it'll be OK.

We'll find out tomorrow if this was a good idea or not???

Marty

I will be watching this rotisserie idea. I was seriously should we start a good & bad rotisserie idea's this week. I'm going to build 1 in the future & i was thinking imput from previous users, could create some clever idea's. You don't want to have to build 1 twice.

Seriously thinking, sorry

Good idea with the parcel shelf brace Marty, mine flexed slightly on the rotisserie when moved ,then had to spent extra time sorting that out.

We have a spinner!

What could be a Torana first with it rotating on brick pillars with no connecting steel below the shell.

Attached File  IMG_3214.jpeg   53.79K   8 downloads

Once attached at both ends the front cradle is dropped.

Attached File  IMG_3215.jpeg   79.6K   10 downloads

Then the rear is removed.

Attached File  IMG_3216.jpeg   53.71K   8 downloads

I was amazed to find once I removed a bonnet hinge the car wouldn't balance until both were off.

Attached File  IMG_3217.jpeg   67.68K   8 downloads

Need to find a spot for these for the next 6 months while it's on the rotisserie.

Attached File  IMG_3218.jpeg   52.79K   8 downloads

There we have it, a floating shell.

Attached File  IMG_3219.jpeg   51.98K   9 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3220.jpeg   77.91K   9 downloads

This was a bit of good luck. When inverted the nose misses the brace by 3mm.

Attached File  IMG_3221.jpeg   63.38K   8 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3222.jpeg   96.07K   8 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3224.jpeg   54.84K   8 downloads

Attached File  IMG_3225.jpeg   88.47K   12 downloads

This is what I rigged up to hold it in position. The hand made wire spring is a fail.

Attached File  IMG_3226.jpeg   93.22K   11 downloads

For those interested (like Gary) some of the measurements are

1200mm from floor to centre of rotator and the car spins on the axis of the centre of fuel filler and headlights.

Indi Orange Paul - I read about the flex and tested it before bracing and it definitely worried me so after brace it was solid.

Plenty of work to do now.

Marty

Good morning Wayne, don't let these glossy pictures fool you. It's a Mammouth task as you would know. Just enjoy the Green machine, that will keep you busy enough. Good to hear from you Bud and I hope us WA blokes get back over to see you guys again soon.

Keep well.

What a great idea, it looks solid-as. Making your own spring is hard core, even if it was a fail. :-)
