They had a problem cooking the head the old VL's. Think it was due to the radiator positioning in relation to the thermostat housing.

So the other day, in a hurry of course. Old crusty wouldn't start. All the lights on the dash, even the bad ones. I was thinking about my first post, should have knocked on my scone a few times. Checked it in and out of park ten times but only a relay click. So pulled the trusted (bit of a lie) Torrie out. Got home checked the battery, seemed fine. Used the tractor to pull it towards the tools, thinking maybe starter. Next day gave it a kick and its hasn't missed a beat since. Now thinking the alarm had a head rush. HZ panelvan.
Was my work vehicle for about 10 years.
Usually filled up to height of bench seat with various electrical gear and tools.
Bought it in 1985 as a 202 and 3 on the tree.
Stopped using it around 1996.
With the weight it carried the accelerator was more of a switch.
Full down or full up.
Did a heap of work for a mate and he included a very rusty 253 auto van in the payment.
Took a weekend and probably 4 cartons to lift the body and change the chassis over.
Put extractors and a 2 and half inch exhaust on it.
Very easy to do on a bare chassis.
End result was great with better power and fuel economy.
Could even use the throttle a lot more.
Sounded really sweet too with a nice note to it.
Never let me down.
Cheers
