On a recent trip to Bali , I discovered a pic on the wall of Blue Bird Taxis at the terminal , 1970s . They must have had a whole fleet of them.I don't know the lingo someone else may .

According to the goggle translation (from Indonesian):

Car repair activities at the Workshop section in the Garuda pool in the 1970s. Routine maintenance of the vehicle has been carried out by Blue Bird since the beginning of its operation.

I used to see a blue 4 door Hj with the roof cut off ( no front windscreen ) also but it has disappeared

When you first fly in,head out to "The Mens Shed" out at Sanur to see a few Holdens and ask if any shows are coming up.  I have been lucky enough to be there when car shows have been on and the quality of workmanship with their restorations is right up there.

Ask for Yuda (groundskeeper in the Beach Melati Apartments, Legian) as he knows a few guys in the car scene. He is also a good guide on his days off as he tends to take Aussies to attractions built for the Indo's out in the back blocks.  If you are keen on jumping on a scooter and riding around the island for a few days, I will give you some tips on where to go. It is a totally different world to the tourist hole down south.

I can't agree with you there Col. 30 years ago, the coast from Jimbaran down to Uluwatu was amazing. Tiny little villages with more cows and chickens than people. No traffic either, so it was an easy ride down on a scooter, a quick swim through the cave, and you were in amongst some of the best surf in the world.  I still head down there, but I go by Jukung (small outrigger canoe) with a mate who parks up next to the airport.  There is still some good fishing not far offshore as well.

As much as I love Australia, I have really enjoyed the quiet areas of that little tropical paradise. But it is very quickly becoming waaay too commercial for me.
