I hope those HR tow vans are 186 . Imagine towing in one of these with a crash box or an M20 Opel 4spd!

I notice the sticker on the boot lid of the LC reads Pat and Pete Cullen. This is Peter Cullen delivering the ex HDT L34 rally car to David Thompson in Tasmania.

I think it is about time that rallycross was brought back into the fold again. I'd watch it.

And only one tailpipe.
That was standard on every engine that you could option on both Monaro and Monaro LS in HQ. So from 173LC (202HC in LS) through to 350 you got a single exhaust standard. Although the pipe size was smaller on 6cyl, 2” on V8 with 1 7/8” muffler. You could option dual exhaust on any V8 coupe though except GTS350 that came standard with dual exhaust.

So if you optioned up a Monaro to 308, it would only come with the one exhaust hanger? Did all HQ Monaros come with disk brakes?

From memory the only 6cyl HQ models that came standard with front discs were Statesman and late Premier sedan or wagon. Can’t recall if LS got front discs standard for all HQ or just when Premier got them.
The only HQ outside of GTS350 to get dual exhaust standard was SS.

It looks Monaro not LS to me also, just the sill mould made me think LS, cheers Aaron
I saw that but it was a common bling item added. The fact it has no vinyl roof and has badges on front of the guard led me to Monaro rather than LS.

They were only used for flow testing, however the ones that did end up being used still had a slightly raised port, but nothing like the ones above.

Those F5000 engines were cool. Nearly 12:1 compression, 4-bolt, forged rods, dry sump, fully floating pistons, Lucas injection or Webers. Way cool.
Another hipo 302ci V8 too. Chevrolet started it in all with the 1967 Z/28 and Ford with the GT-40 and later the Boss.

When i started work in 1975 i sat next to a guy named Leigh who drove his orange 1971 CK xu1 into the city to work each day.
When he found that i was interested in car racing he introduced me to a couple of his friends from other departments who also had Toranas.
These men were named Rob and John and had recently both bought brand new L34s and had optioned the high performance package.
I often saw Rob and he used to keep me updated about the L34s. I remember them taking their cars to Gown / Hindhaugh for a tune up including larger exhaust system etc. While their cars were there they were offered improved heads as a straight swap for their original heads. Apparently G/H had been doing some work on their race cars heads but had gone too far with the work which would have made them ineligible for racing.
Naturally the boys agreed to the heads swap and were blown away by the performance improvement overall.
In fact i recall Rob telling me that when they took the cars for an early Sunday morning run in the country they managed 75 mph in first gear with the 2.78 differential and ran out to 155mph in forth.
Around this time the Bridgestone GR 14 x 60 radials with the raised white lettering became available
and they fitted them to the L34s for better handling.
Robs previous car was an HG Bathurst 350 which he said was quick but but nowhere near the L34.
As i recall the guys sold their cars around 1977 as the L34s were a bit unsociable around Melbourne.
Rob then bought a new black LX SLR 5000. John bought an E49 Charger and a Datsun 260z.
My mate Leigh offered to sell me his CK for $3000 but i couldn't afford it and bought an LC GTR instead.
Leigh then bought an HQ manual coupe with a 308 but he found that its performance was lacking compared with his LC CK.
