I'm getting the old girl ready to hopefully go to the 'Torana's on the Murray' event early next month in Albury.
As it's a long drive from Sydney I fitted a new water pump and 180' thermostat yesterday as some preventative maintenance. (it's already had the alternator reco'd, new regulator, coil, plugs, belt and hoses)
My temp gauge has always read a bit high, around the 3/4 mark, so around 90 to 95 degrees when just cruising around. It gets a bit lower on the highway.
The car has a single thermo fan that is always on.
I'm thinking it may have the wrong temp sender for the dash?
From what I have seen it should be this one? https://www.ebay.com...60.021&_sacat=0
Below are pics of what's in the car. Does anyone know if it's the right one??
From what I can see it has the numbers 6-83 120' on it

Mate, 360.021 is an oil pressure sender not a temp sender.
For some reason that link I used show's an oil pressure sender first.
Below is what I meant

I changed the temp sender in the weekend and it's much better.
It goes to just over 80' and I can see when the thermostat opens then happily sits as below when driving

Nice Matt. May be running a bit cold. Would be nice if it goes back to 82C and sits there.

I’m driving it from Sydney to Albury and back this weekend for the Torana Muscle on the Murray event so I’ll see what it does then

Here’s a photo of the ports on the head while everything was off.
Do you think it’s had much port work done??

I would say they probably are too big as the inlets are fairly moderately ported.

I thought that was a bit strange too.
I have been thinking about buying one of HSD's Bathurst style heads as a replacement and fitting roller rockers at the same time and maybe I'll do it sooner

The head on your car looks like and older style head where the castings didn't have dividers up to the gaskets on the exhaust (2/3 and 4/5). Not ideal in terms of transferring gasses through into the extractor tubes and creating clean pulses/ scavenging.

Yeah, that is super weird and I cannot see how it would be a good thing.I'm a Red Motor fiend, on 11 Dec 2021 - 15:48, said:
Dunno why they did that to the exhaust ports. 2/3 and 4/5 have had the dividers ground back past the bolt up face.

Maybe it is to do with it being an early design head as MustardGTR mentioned?
From memory when I looked into it a while back the head is from the HT/HK era.
I had a search online and found a pic of another head where the exhaust ports are very similar to mine.

What is the number on you head?

To me your head looks as though it still has the remnants at the base of the ports where the divider used to be level with the bolt up face.
Agree.
From memory OEM Holden red 6 manifold gaskets to suit EH 149 & 179 onwards always had the divider strip in the middle of the 2/3 & 4/5 exhaust ports.

I once owned a yellow terra head with the siamese exhaust ports - cast number 7420081. Couldn't wait to get rid of it as the performance was woeful!

I had a look and remembered the numbers on the head are no longer readable for some reason.
The block is a 186P so I think that is from a HK
