Perfectly put, Brett.
I don't envy you going through that at all. Glad to hear of the great news of course.

Crikey David. It must be hard to pull through the troubles you have faced. Only look ahead now, and enjoy life for a while.

Life can certainly dish up some challenges along the way.
Cancer is one of the worst.
Even the word makes some people tremble.
Luckily these days the survivability is much better.
My brother recently had a stage 4 cancer.
That was scary for him and his family.
My own injuries have pretty much stuffed my life, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get through.
Its great that things seem to be getting better for you.
Do more of what you want to do, rather than what you have to do as you get older.
Enjoy life as much as you can.
Cheers
Rob

We are both looking forward to moving forward again once Dianne is better again as chemotherapy takes it out of your body and state of mind more than most people will ever know.
Unfortunately this isn't my first time dealing with cancer as I nursed both my parents though cancer to the end.
I'm ever so thankful that this time around has had a better ending so far. But there is still a long road ahead.

Welded it up the same way as a pressure vessel so I could blend the welds to make it look like one piece stamped out tank.

I was thinking about something similar except without the electrics as I wanted to hide a battery isolation switch and charging connector behind there, I was thinking of having a hidden catch somewhere with a release cable, but your idea is good just for the fuel filler.

I first made it to slide in and out manually.
I then decided to fit the electric ram to it for ease and peace of mind that it stayed closed.
You can do it with the manual setup just need a way to lock it in.

I was just going to use something like a fuel flap release, but the geometry of the hinge needed some design work as I wasn't going to have it move straight outward before pivoting like yours.
I was also going to design a new backing plate using LED or HALO strips so I could do away with the conventional bulb holders, leaving a lot more room behind (gotta love 3D printers)!
I'd love to see a little more detail in how your mechanism works.

Mine is very basic. Simple trumpet slide and a hinge. Nothing to compacated.I was just going to use something like a fuel flap release, but the geometry of the hinge needed some design work as I wasn't going to have it move straight outward before pivoting like yours.

For your setup maybe a double hinge setup. Along with a commodore fuel flap release and a small spring load to pop it outward.
The problem is the side of the taillight hitting the paintwork. That's why it has to travel backwards first.

Still have to clean it all up and do panel work.
The wires will run through inside the slides so no problems with it getting caught on anything. Also will silicon them into the outer channel of the tail light to hold them in place.
I'm going to use 2 of the adventra bulb holders that I've modified to fit the torana tail light.
That way they both clear the fuel filler.
Have a fuel filler door catch from a commodore to fit to hold it in place when it's closed.
With fuel cap on.

Been looking after the wife.
But I've managed to get a list of parts together for the engine build.
Ls6 bottom end stock stroke crank
DSS forged 6cc dome top pistons
6.3 inch Callies comp star H beam rods
Total seal rings
Comp cams bump stick
Comp cams valve springs 505lb
Johnson tie bar hydraulic roller lifters
Milling oil pump
Double row timing chain
Holley 4150 midrise inlet manifold
Holley fuel rail kit.
Holley 4 bbl 1000cfm throttle body
550cc injectors @43 or 610cc at 57psi.
Walbro intank pump.
2 inch carby spacer.
Compression ratio will be 11.78 to 1 and dynamic comp will be 9.1.
So plenty of low down torque still with a 7200rpm rev limit.
Still have more parts to get when dollars allow.
Set of 65cc chamber 215cc gen x heads topped off with Jisel shaft mount rockers
Extra thick push rods full gasket set with .035 head gaskets.
Should make between 550 and 650hp at the crank on pump98 fuel.

I was wondering how this one was going.
I have a twin 3 inch by Manta Exhausts on the Clubsport. It has the cats right up the front, an X pipe not far behind, and two straight through mufflers just in front of the diff. It sounds epic when you get up it, but at 110 kph in 5th gear it drones like a mongrel. (Can't use 6th due to the cam)

I'm hoping the higher compression ratio makes a difference with that.
Also the x pipe setup is like a large void with 350 cubic inch megaphone shape to draw the exhaust gasses out and send a negative pressure wave back up the headers to the engine.
See what I mean by the drawing design.

In regards about Oldjohnno and his exhaust void,
I seem to think it was like no pressure, but adding a muffler creates pressure
Hopefully your on the right track with less pressure will work.
Edit:
Thought I add that the race guys use to put longer secondaries on,
and then race, then cut off the excess pipe after the blue burned area of the exhaust.

I got the idea from David Vizard no loss exhaust system.
It was used on a 700hp Corvette and worked perfectly.

Google megaphone. The first half of this "megamuff" is open chamber, the second half is a muffler.

The idea behind my design is the shape forces the gas to expand and create more volisity and more suction behind it. This then draws more air through the overlap phase of the inlet and exhaust. Creates more cylinder fill with clean fresh and cool intake charge for a bigger better bang.
