Hi fellas,

 

I want to tidy up my engine bay and as I won't be needing the heater I want to bypass it to remove the hoses.

 

Can I just put end caps on the inlet and outlet of the Thermostat or do I need to run a pipe between them to circulate the water?

 

I am planning on using the end caps like below if I can.

Ends caps are fine some people join them

You could be proper tidy and put an EH HD lower housing on Matt. I wouldn’t trust them new fangled caps. 8)8)

Not if it's a later model cylinder head that has the extra hole to suit with the later type housing.

One hole is blind and the other gets plugged so not that tidy really. Weld or plug the outlets and fit caps over the top then.

Looks like I'll use a short hose as a loop to avoid the end caps blowing out.

Hard to find one with the radius so you generally need to fold the hose, which leads eventually to failure and looks rough. You can weld up with a stick welder using rods for cast iron or tap and bung with sealant on the threads. Then caps cover the aesthetics. But really they did it from the factory so just fit caps.

Blue motor 6-cyl in VC/VH/WB etc. had a moulded by-pass hose which will do the job. It fits over the 2 nipples on the manifold side of the thermostat housing.

I'll go with the plugs as it will look neater and just keep an eye on them

Tap them, fit grub screws & sealent as stated, put caps over the top, never have a problem. I've had those caps split a few times, shit things.

I put caps on mine many many moons ago when the heater core decided to leak. Probably had them on for a couple of years until I got around to pulling the heater out and having the core replaced.

Never had a problem. I think I might still have them. They were from GMP&A.
