I used the charcoal canister from the VZ my LS1 came from, have it mounted under the inner guard passenger side and the engineer was happy.

Very neat brake lines you have there Harvey, I think when I change boosters I might need an upgrade like that.

Hi Tom,I hadn't thought of that. Could you send me a pic of the install? I love your car and the fact you use it for what they are meant for. Well done on a fantastic build mate.

The brake lines off the master cylinder for me was get them out of the engine bay fast. The coil pack covers made that a tight squeeze. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Cheers

Another requirement was that the Charcoal Canister must be in the car as original. This made no sense as I had fuel injection and a throttle body, but you know make them happy.

I made this up and forwarded the photos, looks cool????

Harvey and the rest of the brains trust, if the Brown Davis tank doesn’t pass engineering, how does any droptank pass? Or how do you get engineering for them? I am having the same question from my engineer on the LJ tank which is only 15mm deeper than factory to fit internal commodore fuelpump and sender.

Next question, if you swap the tank back out and anything happens, what happens with our insurance?  Seeing as our cars are worth quite a bit, I am sure insurers would look closely at everything if the unthinkable happened and we had to make a claim?

I’m a bit stuck as I reckon it will be near impossible to get the commodore pump into the standard tank, and don’t really want to buy a new Bathurst tank to chop up.

Thanks Harvey,

I do have pictures but unfortunately I am working through to early Jan so can't get them from my laptop until I am home.

I have the rectangular shaped VZ canister on a bracket that attaches to the internal bumper bracket, will post a pic when I am home.

I have an aluminium drop tank that is about 90 litres, it is shallow enough that it passes the rear departure rule and was passed by the engineer. It has a VZ style pump but its been taken apart and the internal rods that act on the springs were cut and shortened so it would fit.

EFI hardware in Melbourne sell all sorts of EFU conversion equipment too, they might have a solution.

Hi Adam, the bottom line is if it's not on your engineering certificate your insurance won't cover it. I accept the risk as its more stolen vehicle cover for me than repair damage. I'm insured by Shannons, I had the guy look over the Hatch to give me an in an insurance value and he quoted me on the spot as it was. (100k, that's the maximum they would go without it being a matching numbers car)

Another requirement for the engineering was that I needed retractable seat belts for the rear of the car as it was considered a high performance engine. Rare Spares had what I needed, I have made a plate bracket to sit under the rear parcel shelf to secure them. I think I looks pretty good.

The car was only just on correct rear track measurements. The engineer accepted that the original track was 1372mm plus the allowance of 25mm gave me 1397mm. I think a lot of cars are over track.

The Engineer was now happy with the Hatch and gave me the mod plate... That lead me to the Transport department. Tough crowd to impress. Because I had removed the R.H.S. rail which had the VIN number on it, They were concerned that I was re birthing a car. I had keep the rail and top plate with the original VIN number for just this reason. After several emails and phone calls they issued me with a new VIN number. I have attached this to the under side of the R.H.S. rail. Then I needed to pass the basic inspection of general registration. None of this was for free, LOL

At the end of it all I had my name etched into the Hatch, more than worth it !!!

Congratulations Harvey. Wife’s FB has a QLD mod plate from 1994. The inscription is nothing like as neat as yours.

I've got a mod plate on my truck, and it looks like the details were scratched in by a 4 year old with a screwdriver!

Sorry it took so long Harvey,

Some pics of my VZ charcoal canister, its under the left front guard on a bit of plate attached to the bumper bracket. Sorry pics are'nt the best think these were of air con dryer rather than the canister.
