I tacked the rail on the car and checked the measurements, the lhs rail was out by 10mm as well which didn't help things. The doors need the usual repairs and I was sick of drilling spot welds.

I stripped the K frame cleaned it up, painted it in 2 pack and fitted the new rubbers. I am using CRS parts for mounting the drive line and sump. I will also install their chassis strengthening kit. I went with power steering from Axis Truck repairs to keep with the pro tour feel. Really nice piece of gear !!!
Then put it all together for a test fit, chubby time

The good news is that the hatch and the LH bonnet where better than I hoped.

I want to make it a show quality car so I smoothed the inner guards and relocated the K frame access points. ( engineer is cool with that )

I like your work Harvey, you obviously know what you are doing. I must admit though, I wouldn't have had the heart to carve up the LH. Cheers Ron

I know what you mean Ron, not my prouldest day I can tell you not much was wasted and it may help a few more cars hit the road.

I wouldn’t think twice, no different to cutting up a HK sedan to fix up a HG coupe and making the HG look like a HT. I still have a couple of HK sedans with good bodies set to be donors for coupes.

The one downside to relocating the K frame access is that it will be much easier for water and debris to enter the rail. Have you thought of making some sort of sealed cover?

Yes Rexy I'll weld 5mm flat either side of the access holes then drill and tap them and make a cover plate to add strength and to plug the holes.

I cleaned up the fire wall seams earlier and then etch primed the engine bay and stripped the nose cone.

The front guards need panel beating but I'm leaving that to the experts. So I've done the rust repairs.

With most of the external covered i needed to look at the tunnel for the gear box. It was important for me to have a centre console they complete the look of the interior so I found one that I will restore and used it to guide me with how much of the tunnel cut.

Hi Ice, Thanks for that. When I said I wanted the SL style it is with exceptions. I will be installing a drop tank (that arse needs the right undies) a bonnet scoop and the dash will be silver. Think of it as a fully optioned SL. I will be mounting the battery in the boot it will fit where the spare wheel depression would have been.

I have repaired the plenum chamber and then sealed the welds with mastic and any other pin holes and remade the fan entry port

And finally after a couple of years cutting drilling and welding I could cover the car in a 2 pac thick etch primer. It won't see any paint for a while, I'll continue to built the car until it starts drives and stops, Then I'll strip it for paint.

I put the car on a rotisserie to prep and paint the underside. I painted the rails gloss black and sound dead flec over the floor pan then fitted the chassis strengthening kit, It when in easy and is very well made. Now is the time to bolt on some fun.
