The hatch is in now in very good hands, The brother has been working hard at making the lines and profiles flow across the car, its a real art. A mate gave me the sales brochure for the hatchback as an early birthday present, I love the SL !!!

The first week of the SL in iSoLation has been productive. Daimon has reshaped the rear panel to suit the hatch lid with a new rubber installed for a closed fit. We have spent a few hours fixing my " I'll just weld it and he can figure it out stuff" The roof is in fill coat and he is now looking at the drivers side panels. I've got the job of stripping the engine bay

Good job Harv. There was a bit of colourful language around your welding I bet.

We have been having a go at Daimon's. The rear half of the car is now in hi fill and we have just finished the engine bay. This will be a long and rewarding part of the build. The progress feels like running up hill, you just keep punching I guess

A quick up date, this week I've capped the bonnet ribs where the scoop cut out has been made and sanded back the underside of the bonnet. I've rubbed back the hi fill in the engine bay (2 days!!) and late this arvo Daimon threw some primer on to cover them. They look great wet, so it should be a good finish.

Nice work Harvey, lot of great work in your build.

Is that hole in the drives side tray for an air intake?

Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom, the hole in the drivers side inner guard is for the filler cap of the windscreen washer bottle ( Aeroflow polished cap)

Sorry Tom, the one in the tray is for the oil breather catch can and it drains threw the bottom with a screw valve.

The last couple of weeks have been awesome, the bruv has worked his magic on most of the panels. We have a guard, hatch and nose cone to go to have it all in hi fill. There is a rumour going around that he might put colour inside the door jams this weekend. The colour of choice is Mandarin Red. I have decided to install the drive line from under the car after it is painted to reduce the risk of damage, while I'm putting it back together I'll show a couple of things you won't see later. The steering shaft is a Borgeson 3/4"DD with a polished stainless U - joint, The gear box shifter is a B&M sport shifter (really short throw between gears) and the remote bleed fitting for the clutch. The shock absorbers are Koni ajustable front and back. I haven't sorted out swaybars yet ( any recommendations for the rear with the 9" )

Thanks for the answers Harvey,

I used a standard rear sway bar, it wasn't going to fit with the 9" so I just moved the holes in the trailing arms to move it back a bit and have enough clearance, I think I have seen pictures of the Whiteline sway bars used that mount to the axle tubes and then locate on the body. Or if you want something different these guys custom make sway bars, not very local to you though

Hope you get a colourful weekend

Cheers, Tom

Hi Maz, very motivated now!!! The Engineers name is Earl Gilchrist. He lives in the north of the state and travels to Hobart (I'm in Hobart) His website is www.autotechnicaqld.com.au The website still shows his old Queensland base, but he is here to stay. A great guy and very reasonable.

We have painted the inside of the doors and some of the colour coded items and then rehung the doors for the final fit. I removed the masking off the engine bay, sign that section off. The colour changes so much in different light.
