Are they the right hose clamps to use?  I've seen that type cut into the hose before and damage it.

I prefer this type.

I have now installed the diff and with that the hand brake cables. Because of the chassis strengthening kit I had to keep them in close to the tail shaft and avoid any contact with the exhaust. Good old Bunnings had the answer. The tail shaft is custom made by Hardy Spicer and is 3" diameter. I also made a protection plate for the rear brake line.

The fuel tank is next and then the exhaust. I took a couple of pics to show how well it fits under the car.

You arent worried about the sump sitting down so low?

Ive got 2 LS projects going, and for the car I tried that sump but didnt like how low it goes.

I ended up getting an aeroflow sump with a remote oil filter.

It got rid of the problem of the sump being so low and also allowed the engine to drop down significantly.

Made the gearbox sit in a better spot as well.

Saved me doing major tunnel work.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob, the sump is the lowest point of the drive line. I had the guys who made the exhaust make a sump protection plate that bolts to the K frame I'll fit it soon and post a pic. The sump was a lot of work as it is. To make power steering fit I needed to recess a section on the front RHS which meant I had to make a new oil pick up line a run it down the LHS. This was tricky at the oil pump as the sump pan is really shallow and I needed about a 120 deg turn. It didn't fit on the first 4 attempts!!!

Hi Mando, this what I used about 4 cans. It not something you want to do under the car a rotisserie is the best bet.

Hey Brett, They were supplied by the exhaust guys I left it up to them all I can tell you is they have "Growler" written on them.

The sump protection plate is now fitted.

That's a nice looking sump guard... but I think I'd be drilling a couple of drain holes in the bottom of it otherwise you'll have a swimming pool sloshing around in there (unless it's designed to catch oil leaks of course)?

Great job.

Looks like the Aeroflow pan with remote filter would have saved you a lot of work and drama.

Its a lot shallower at the front section than the alloy one, and heaps shallower at the rear.

My car project looked a little worse for exposure than yours, but with the other sump there is no exposure.

Some do however say that the LS1 relies on the strength of the alloy sump for longevity.

But others say it isnt really an issue.

No idea who is right.

Cheers

Rob

Do you know how much ground clearance the belly pan will give you once the car is lowered nicely?

I haven't had my Torana at ride height for so long that I can't remember how the crossmember sits. My crossmember on my Datsun is at about 75mm off the ground, so you wouldn't be able to have anything hanging down from it like ^.

Hi Heath, my clearance is 70mm, I checked it today. Its a case of that's what I want and now that's what I've got. If it becomes a problem then i'll look at plan B
