Crocodile tears from our PM.

And his Comm Fleet Car Department is in the process of purchasing new imported BMWs as replacements. Couple of hundred I think .....

They will be 10 times better than the over priced Ford, Holden and Toyota’s they were building in Australia.

I dont like Samantha Armytage and Kochie blaming me for their demise...

Why should I have to buy a product that I: a) dont like, B) doesn't suit my lifestyle and c) doesn't meet my budget.

I do feel sorry for the GMH execs who were probably directed to sell unsuitable cars by their bosses at GM.

I saw that and they brought on Skaife to comment as well. All due respect for his racing talents but he's no business analyst and him blaming Holden was a bit out of line too.

They didn't build cars for us rev heads; they did build some suitable cars for the average consumer but without tariff protection they just couldn't compete against cheaper imports.

Thank Fnck predictions of $6 a litre for petrol was wrong.

Petrol in Europe is twice what we pay, this is how Germany is able to build and maintain their autobahn. The poorer countries of course also have similar high fuel costs and this is mainly why so many in Europe drive rather crappy 4 cylinders. They don't have such a great highway system as Germany so obviously the excise goes into govt. coffers to fund social services, infrastructure, corruption, etc.

I didn’t realise until I got to NZ. Hired a Ranger to drive around the South Island. Diesel is around $1.35-$1.60 per litre. ULP91 is 70c/L dearer. Hope we don’t get that bad.

Mary Barra (GM CEO) hasn't just f#@ked Australia over, she is screwing her own country. Won't be long and most of GM's production will be coming from China and Mexico.

Much more expensive to insure my 1995 E36 318i compared to my 2011 Toyota Corolla. Ill never buy a BMW again.

You are far better of with a Lexus than a BMW if you want a luxury type car. Sure they cost, but are cheap used. Parts are Toyota priced (although some crash parts like radar grille badges and projector headlamps are expensive, but they are for most cars anyway). Rear shocks for my RX350 were about $170 a pair in Toyota boxes. Front strut inserts were $250 for the pair. Servicing is no different price wise to a Toyota. They are made in Japan and seem to be very reliable, and have a reputation for reliability like any other Japanese made Toyota.

I'm willing to bet the Holden CEO was on a multi million dollar salary and also received a sizeable farewell handshake.

Some are blaming the workers, saying they were overpaid yet we haven't had a wage rise in Aus. for years and our poverty levels are a disgrace ... and rising.

Capitalism has its good points but is also ripe for abuse and corruption ... and of course some of our leaders want to follow the US model, they stand the most to benefit with shady backdoor deals, etc.

I don't really like anything anyone made since around about my lx hatchback time. That applies to all makes until Tesla came along.  except for my 370z.

But the feeling for Holden is as they say about Lou in the movie hot tub time machine. he's an asshole but he's our asshole.
So it's not a good thing.

I don't care what mine's worth now or later as I've given in and accepted as the Mrs says it's not worth anything if it's not for sale. As she does frequently forgets but from that seems to have got the message from me that there is no selling it in it's future!
I only laugh about the price I paid for it about 25 years ago.

Euro car replacements is just crazy!!
Only one i like being in is the audi a8, for being spacious and so fast. but it's not so far off from the statesman. rest are standard average stuff can't tell difference inside it's just a badge.
The rule in uk is take a new one on 3 year lease with warranty and never let it get out of warranty cover as they're unaffordable to repair when they go. and they will most like die a very expensive one somewhere in that time.
Also it's 0%apr on a 3 year lease so everyone got one in uk on that type of deal. They would never take one without those conditions.

The foundation of the car industry is customers who just want something that gets from A to B as cheap as possible and of course they'll choose whatever looks best in their price range. The sporty models really only cater for the aficionado though that's not to be understated as they're usually the flagship that sells more low end product.

It's really odd, Commodore wins Bathurst so we'll rush off to buy a Camira from Holden, hahaha.

the Mrs says it's not worth anything if it's not for sale.

 ...  a.k.a. priceless ;)

That's the rule of thumb here for all the Euro sports cars; Ferraris, Porsches, etc. If you're going to buy one, choose one with as little mileage as possible. Some are going very cheap here but restoring them will send you broke.

No and probably never will. I was thinking of buying a M3 but got scared.

I have a new VW Golf R, walked in dealership and bought without ever sitting in any Golf. It stops well, turns like a go kart, 300hp with beautiful DSG gearbox, faster than a Holden LS3 commodore and run 12 sec 1/4’s out the box. To buy a SS Commodore or HSV I needed to pay more money for lots less of a car.

My boss had a M4, very nice car, the seat belts would automatically tighten when you clipped them on, very impressive. It was a bit rough on Sydney roads though, probably had too low a tyre profile.

One time he was driving the company vehicle around, a VW Caddy and he commented it was a lot more pleasurable to drive around Sydney than the M4 which he ended up selling not long after his girlfriend became his fiancée. He said it was a nice car to show off in but now needs something more practical.
