i think I have asked this question before but both my front upper bump stops are rooted as they are the original ones. I have a couple of NOS ones but there's not much room up there to try and squeeze new ones in. Is there a trick to fitting these without having to disassemble the suspension? Lots of KJ jelly and a long Stanley screwdriver??

I recall that I did something like put it in position with rubber lube and then gradually jack up the lower control arm and get the bump stop to press in using that load. It probably needed a bit of a poke here and there as it went in. That might not be exactly how it went but I remember jacking up some part to press it in.

Thanks James. I guess I just needed someone to tell me that it is possible before I go to all the effort of trying. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I believe you would need to remove the shock absorber and install a spring compressor to compress the spring so as to raise the upper arm away from the crossmember spring tower to make enough space to access the bump rubber.

I was lucky my spring was shorter than originals.
I just put jack under lower control arm and jacked it
up from under lca which gave me just enough room to
Put it in.clean forgot when assembling..
some lube and just twisted it in. i could put coil in
the spring tower when i done other side
Put jack under it jack it up then i could join top
Balljoint into top of the steering knuckle with ease.
As all the pressure weight was on the spring in tower it
cant go anywhere .maybe you could do this crack top
balljoint nut etc and give it a hit to release pressure
You might have to take the lower control bumpstop
rubber off when jacking it up maybe for more clearance.

With my LX I jacked up the LCA to get the bump stop roughly in position then let it down and jacked up the whole k Frame whilst holding the stop in place and the weight with the wheel on squeezed the stop into the hole (with lube obviously). Only problem is that it only worked for one side. For some reason I don't seem to have enough pressure on the other side to squeeze the stop through. Cheers Ron

Crikey seems like this might be difficult. Thanks to those that replied.

Hi,
Replaced these front upper UCA bump stops today.
Was pretty easy actually.
Lowered springs and 2 post hoist probably helped.
Wheel off.
Lower car onto stand or block of wood, so spring is compressed.
Undo upper ball joint, remove nut.
Pop ball joint.
Jack up car so ball joint taper comes out of upright.

Release upper ball joint .
Let LCA droop down.
Grab UCA bumpstop with multi grips and twist it out.
Grease up lip on new one, push in as far as you can, get a helper.
With 2 flat blade srew drivers poke the rest of the lip in. Easy.
Reassemble the other stuff.
