Some photos of the ad, i doubt it will help, but the seller is not being forthcoming with photos of tags.

If you can't get info on the tags privately,I'd be doubtful on it being an original GTR .

Check before the cheque. So realistically your buying a two door Torana ,Looks like a nice car.

That car appears to be nice, 50k for a nice 2 door is prob. not bad these days.

If it's a GTR, even better.

As above, if it's a GTR you are after, then tags and inspection are an absolute must.

Good luck with it.

Sounds like your typical chancer, I’ve met lots of them over the years!

This is the sort of car that you need to go and look at very carefully. The recent bodywork could be hiding all sorts of war crimes.

Ive found some gems and found some dogs with similar stories.

For that price it would want to be a very very good non GTR.

Bet you it’s still “all over Facebook “ and still for sale in a fortnight.

Rego number in the pics might give you some info if you check it on the RMS site.

Cheers,

Liz :)

If it is a 1/73 build Torana the chassis number will be BLJ18022B. Approx completion date for this chassis number would be around the 17th January.

Not many GTR built at Acacia Ridge in January 1973. Count them on one hand. Closest GTR completed  was on the 23/01/1973.

If you had GTR tags wouldn't you be promoting them at the top of the features list as this would be the most desirable feature?

Thanks for all the advice & help :)
The chassis i found out through NSW Transport matches a BLJXXX22B so it seems to be on the money. I just need to get over there with $$$ & check it over before the money leaves my hands.
The reason he wouldn’t send pics of the tags was due to ppl flogging them off in scam gumtree ads, as he has a Monaro & other collectable cars in the shed that were unregistered.
Thanks again, the help’s much appreciated!

BLJ32022B is not the VIN number. It is the chassis number.

Engine number is wrong. Will be QL929407 from a HZ around March 1978. If you are going to buy it get that engine number checked rather than the CL one to make sure it’s all OK.

Sorry guys, i jumped the gun and incorrectly stated i had the VIN number... which unfortunately i cannot get as the seller won't send me photos of the VIN (due to dodgy people ripping them off supposedly). He is more than happy to show me all the tags on the car in person, but due to COVID-19 i cannot get there.

These details i got from a PPSR check. The seller specifically stated it is not the original engine as they pulled that out to modifiy a new 202 block, which i am perfectly fine with.

I am more worried, is it a genuine GTR? This is the million $$$ question i guess i am having problems answering without a VIN number.

Unfortunately this is all i've got... and if i can't get there, it will simply be sold to the next buyer in line.

Chassis number: BLJ32022B
Engine number: CL929407

I found my ID plate on gumtree for sale once. So I know where he is coming from.

I don't buy the excuse. Even if he won't send a pic of the plates he could at least tell you the VIN/PSN number so you can check it out to confirm it is what he says it is.

Also all the Qx9294xx numbers I can find are 4.2L engines, even those close to it like 929402-3. Makes me wonder if it isn’t a real number.

Edit - I just found a couple at Acacia Ridge. QL929423, 24, 28, 30, 34, 36, 38, 45 and QM929400. Given there were none recorded at Elizabeth or Pagewood that I could find I’d say pretty much most QL9294xx engines came from Acacia Ridge vehicles, 407 probably did too.
