What block pattern have I got here? To suit an Aussie 4 speed and Trimatic gearbox? This would be classed as Trimatic/Aussie pattern and not Turbo?

That's a QT prefix Trimatic pattern 308 block with a K92 date code!

Just for comparison, this is a Turbo Hydro (aka Chevy) bolt pattern 308 block...

The location of the two upper bolt holes is a dead giveaway, however the dowel pins are also about half a hole different.

That block is also one of the few that can’t be redrilled to turbo pattern as there isn’t enough metal around the dowel to shift it.

As Rexy says it is an early one, 1969-1974. The first half of red V8 blocks look that way except L34 and F5000 blocks and they cannot be re-machined to TH auto pattern, they are all manual/Holden/Powerglide/Trimatic. The engine prefix will be 308H, 308N, QT, 11QT, HT or NT.

Cheers. Yeah a mate was thinking of slipping it into his HG prem which is currently a 253. So I guess its even period correct then.

Not that it matters, if it’s not original to the Premier it doesn’t matter what it is unless it is a later engine forcing later emissions onto the car, like a VL block can.

Yeah his 253 is original. He was going to put it aside somewhere safe.

Good move. Use that one. Get the benefits of a bigger engine and no-one cares if it breaks!
