See the above posts from 2008, I previously had a UC Torana and now have 76 LX Hatch. The Seats (both drivers and passengers) where firmer in the UC meaning you sat higher. Both seats where the same so I don't think wear to the drivers seat was the difference.

Which of the option codes that make up A9X means the seats are different? As far as I am aware none of them have anything to do with seats? As far as I am aware:
A9X = A22, L31, JM8, UL5, D72, V5B G70 (later replaced by GU4), TT5 (D69 only), M21, QDA, and DL7 (D77 only). Plus UL5 and V5B.
The only options were: MC7, D50, V5G (D77 only), G70, V5J (D77 only).
The other "options" associated with the cars were mandatory and/or standard options: A8F, A8G, V5B, XS6, XT4.
The wheels must have been like HK where if you optioned a certain tyre you got a certain wheel with it.
If there is a difference it must be hidden in parts not as an option buildup.

Yes, but every Torana except those with a bench seat got the "XS6" RPO, there would had to have been something on the broadcast sheet to tell the guy on the line to grab a different seat for an A9X?
It's box #24 on the build sheet but I've only ever seen two A9X build sheets, one was hand written with "No" in that box and the other had "RCR" but I suspect that sheet is a fake so that may be unreliable.
EDIT: Looking at a couple of HX & HZ build sheets, they also have the "XS6" RPO and "RCR" in box #24
I'm not arguing with you, I believe there was a different foam cushion, I'm just saying that they wouldn't have trusted whoever happened to be on the production line that day to fit a different seat without being instructed to do so.

XS6 was part of every 77 body style regardless of it being a Torana or a Sunbird, as it was with 2 door Torana sedan and Holden coupes, that is why it was a mandatory option, just like A8F, A8G and XT4 (V5B shouldn't be listed in A9X mandatory options in post 28, that is my stuff-up).
As I said it if it is even fact it may well be a post-production modification hidden in parts detail. If it was spacers or something like that easy to do post production like when the flares etc were done.

I just looked at my lx sales brochure printed Feb 76 and there is no mention of halogen lights as std or optional equipment. Photo of the SS headlight looks to be flat front halogen however.
Yes I always thought it was strange that Holden didn't seem to be promoting a feature like Halogen lights in their brochures. Nor do any of the car tests I've seen from when the LX Toranas were released make any mention of Halogens.
I did, however after a lot of digging around find this feature on the release of the Hatchback in the Feb 76 edition of the GMH People magazine.

I was of the thought that sometime in 1977, the H4 headlight option became 'standard fitment" for SS, SLR 5000 & A9X.

SS always had Quartz Halogen lights fitted, as did A9X both sedan and hatch.
SLR/5000 did not have Halogen lights fitted as standard pre A9X, if they had the A9X sedans would not all have had the TT5 Quartz Halogen option listed.

Hi old topic but im curious about the front seats in the a9x, compared to the slr/ slr5000/ ss hatch, ive read what members have said, eg foam u can use from the uc torana etc etc etc,my question is is there a difference, I have a bet with a friend who says that there is no difference between the slr front seats and the a9x front seats, I personally think that there is a difference does any forum member know??? hopefully my way

They all look the same to me, apart from the different trim colours.

And once again, as Andrew mentioned above, it would have been a written instruction on the build sheets for each car. If it changed at all, it would have been a running change for all Toranas and Sunbirds at the same time. Maybe it happened with the second run of A9X's that also got the wider flares and Sunbird suspension arms?

Someone refresh my memory... When did driver's seat choice become free for race teams under CAMS?
The reason I ask is that the only reason GMH would go to the trouble of changing the seat cushion just for the A9X is for homologation, and if race teams were allowed to fit a proper racing seat by then there would've been no reason to do it.

1977 was the 1st year that a Group C car could have either one or both of the original front seats swapped out for a CAMS approved make and model of seat.

I was thinking if the A9X front seat cushions were replaced it may have been in conjunction with revised suspension spring rates however it appears the A9X evolution of the 8VD69 and 8VD77 did not include suspension springs and/or any front seat revisions.

If there was a change it would only have had to happen to all 8VD models. No special mention would have been required on the Production Broadcast Sheet as all 8VD front seats made from a particular point in time would use the same revised cushions.

Where this was installed I.e. at the factory or when the body kit were installed, I'm not sure.
Seat padding was a feature on the LX over the LH & not an A9X mod.

Hi mark your almost correct, if you go back to post 18 read what fly again states, I believe that there was no difference in the seat padding between slr/ slr5000/ ss/ or the a9x

Same here Brad. When wearing a helmet in the L34 it touches the roof lining.

So next question... Was it simply spacers (and, I assume, longer bolts) fitted at the same time as the fibreglass bits or was it a different lower seat cushion?
