LKW-111 as I purchased it in the mid 80,s.
I purchased LKW-111 in the mid 80,s and gathered a mountain of nos parts and paperwork for the car to aid in its restoration. I am the guy mentioned in the article who sold the car to its current owner in the very late 90,s. When I owned the car it still had its original body and engine and was once the most original surviving ex HDT LJ XU-1. For sum unknown reason to me the current owner has rebodied the car and now also has restamped an engine. He has completely stuffed what once was the most original surviving ex HDT LJ XU-1. The reason I let LKW-111 go was so I could begin the restoration of BPR-01 back to its 1977 Group C era. Peter Brocks first A9X. BPR-01 Bill Patterson Racing : Chassis Number 1.

BPR-01 made an awsome road car for a short period.

BPR-01 today back were it belongs.
BPR-01 still survives today, such a shame I can not say the same for LKW-111

Basil Van Rooyen ran an L34 at the 77 Sandown numbered 24 & Brock drove an A9X Hatchback numbered 05, while Phil Brock drove a 2nd L34 numbered 26.
Were these two L34s BR1 & BR2 & the A9X Hatchback BR3 ?
At 77 Bathurst Brock again had an A9X Hatchback this time numbered 25, but Basil had a 4-door A9X number 26, the 3rd car was entered as an L34 for Tony Roberts & Doug Chivas.
I'm pretty sure that Van Rooyen car pictured above was one of the L34s converted to A9X spec. Why didn't they convert both L34s to A9X spec for 77 Bathurst ?

Most people believe these 2 cars were LH L34,s. The front car driven by Peter Brock 05 is BPR-01, a LX GMP&A Race Shell. The car behind, driven by Phillip Brock 50 is Peters old LH L34. BPR-01 was the car driven by Gerry Marshall & Basil Von Rooyen at Bathurst in 1977, Car 24. Peters old LH L34 was driven by Tony Roberts & Doug Chivas at Bathurst in 1977, Car 26. Peter & Phil Brock were in his new hatch, BPR-02 a LX GMP&A Race Shell, Car 25.

Trying to turn a 5/72 Brisbane built torana S into a 2/73 Adelaide built LJ XU-1 is just dumb. Leaving the vin plate on is even dumber.........

So the car was a GMP&A shell not one of the GMP&A race cars?
Its racing chassis number provided to the shell by Holden is BPR-01.( Bill Patterson Racing ) Chassis number 1.

GMH race cars sold to race as A9X had normal LX chassis numbers that sit in amongst all the production A9X's. GMH sold bare shells if you wanted to buy one and this must have been one of them, if it was raced prior to A9X production it cannot be a GMP&A race car AFAIK, would have to be a standard LX shell that they built the car from and to race when it did it'd have been built to L34 homologation. I'm pretty sure I have a photo of this car's BODY tag somewhere too, taken many years ago. Can't find it right now.

The precedence was set when a GMP&A race shell (and marked as such on the BODY plate) was walked down the production line in September 1975. It featured pretty much the same modifications as the later A9X race shells. As far as I know this one and BPR-01 were the only two prior to the A9X homologation.

I guess BPR just ran out of time to convert the old Brock car to A9X specs with the work they had on their hands getting BPR-01 and BPR-02 ready for Bathurst.
The old car pictured above was in A9X spec when it was transferred to Gary Cooke 23-2-78.

Hi Laurie
Under the FIA rules the torana had a shelf life of 4 years.
LC-LJ 1970, 1971, 1972 & 1973
LH-LX 1974, 1975, 1976 & 1977.
In 1977 you could not convert a LH to LX, but after its shelf life of 4 years had expired you could ( 1978 ). You may even be able to find a VB commodore rallying around Australia with a LJ XU-1 engine and carbs in it. From 1978 all homologated components could be used provided they were approved by C.A.M.S.
