I have recently completed an electric power steer column for my LJ rally car. It will bolt into any LJ without any modification to the car. It is speed sensitive with maximum torque at low speed and zero torque at high speed. Plugs into back of fuse box, plus 1 x earth and 1 x battery connection.

This represents a significant change in the way the car drives and allows the use of short, neutral Ackerman steering arms, that reduce lock to lock down to 2.25 turns.

This car also runs HSR Mikuni Flatslide carbs and I am looking for an LJ XU1 manifold to replace the the Redline manifold that I am using.

I would be happy to build another column for a member and swap it for a manifold.

No rack mod required, the column does all the work. At low speed (parking) you only need 1 finger to turn the wheel. I have machined up some short straight steering arms to reduce the number of turns from lock to lock.

What electric power steering unit did you use. I’ve got an lc with a 5 litre and 7” rims which makes it very hard to steer

My LC with a 4.2 is also hard to steer, wouldn't mind this set up for mine.

Nando, if you read what Dr Bill said, he said no mods to the car and no mods to the steering rack. The electric PS unit is intergrated into the steering column so the steering column is the component that needs all the mods.
