The big thing is if its the winning 72 car, there is no way it can be a 73 body, I also thought it had the bigger bumper bar hole in the radiator support panel, but that could be just shadow, really would need clearer image to be spot on, anyways come on Bruce tell us is it the old Peter Brock 28C car or not ???

I also wondered about that shadow and whether it indicated the stronger '73 bracket, especially when the bracket seems to have held firm when the bumper bent; I would have thought the much lighter '72 bracket would have given way. But as Gong says the pictures aren't clear enough to be decisive.

In Als photo it looks like it could have the reinforcement, directly under the bolt which bolts the A Frame to the chassis ? It could be shadow ? Really would need clearer images to be spot on.......

Only one HDT LJ had the vent grille in front of the windscreen cut open.

Hi Gong
I'm sorry, I do not know. I have been told various stories over the years and now am looking into them. Finding clear pictures of car 11 at Bathurst in 1974 is proving to be a task in itself.......

He commented that it would be the 28c car, later sold to D. Johnson.

um, not sure that makes sense...isn't DJ being quoted as thinking XU1s had potential. The author made the Bond car comment?
Agree Col, the author of that article has made the claim about the Nixon-Smith car being the original 24C shell, not Dick Johnson.

Barry Nixon-Smith purchased Peter Brock's old Bathurst winning 28C LJ GTR XU-1 from the HDT in early 1974.
This is the very same XU1 that Dennis Geary became a passenger in, slammed into the embankment and rolled at Forrest Elbow during Bathurst in 1974.
The car was repaired and Barry competed in at least one more race in the car before selling it to Dick Johnson in early 1975.
Dick Johnson knew full well the LJ GTR XU1 he was buying from Nixon-Smith was the 28C car that Peter Brock drove to victory at Bathurst in 1972.
When Dick was finished with the car he sold it to Kerry Cox who in turn sold it to Peter Varady in 1978 with Peter then selling it to Glenn Amos 3 years later.
AFAIK Glenn still owns the car.

Both 28c and 24c we're both Adelaide 1/72 chassis numbers ALJ 00###A and consecutive PSN/VIN numbers and body numbers, one was only registered for 12 month and one still registered until the late 70's in Victoria

interesting pics there FLY,,, so is it the original shell ? Or a re shelled car ? The reason I ask this is it seems to have a 73 cut out in the drivers guard, but that number 11 car this thread is about would have needed a new drivers guard judging by the looks of it.

Maybe both guards have been replaced Gong with both guards being turned down as per Brisbane built cars ? ? ? ?
