Great stuff. Totally agree on the exhaust. On my HX van years ago I ran 7x14ā€ Steelies all around with 225 tyres. Steering was heavy.

7x14 is that all had 14x8 inch Elstars on the front of my HZ van with 265 TAs no P Steer but yeah heavy AF

Tyre guys recommended 7ā€ maximum rim width, but that was trying to keep same size on all four.

it's definitely dragging on and I think I may have hit some setbacks now.

I wasn't able to do the brake test with the engineer yet due to rain. We need to reschedule that. He did inspect the car on a hoist over the weekend and he has given me some small jobs to do, nothing major.

Mainly heat shielding around the exhaust and clamping the fuel lines a bit better in some spots.

We spoke a bit more on my shiny wheels and I definitely can't use them as they have no markings on them at all for approved DOT use. big shame, very disappointing.

I think I might look into some of the GTS style alloy rims that a few outlets are offering, I quite like them in a 17inch modern retro kind of vibe... They will probably have a DOT stamp of some sort to comply with VSB14 and I'd just need some hub bore rings to make sure they are located 100% correct then I should be able to get them included on the engineers report too... more cost though which I need to get by the boss (wife)

Weren't they Weld Wheels? Not Chinese? I would have thought Weld would have the correct markings on them.

Yeh genuine Welds, at least I'll recoup some money from them...

no markings on them what so ever.

I've seen on some US branded mags they sometimes have a stamping inside the rim - as in, pull the tyre off, then you can see it. I'm not going to go to that extent, and I'm not sure that even meets the Aus rules anyway.

They need to have the JIT or Euro standard marking on them on the backside of the rim to comply with VSB14

To me, changing wheels is like changing shoes. Iā€™d be getting it passed with shat ever rims the engineer is happy with, then put the welds on. I do like the rally rim style alloys though.

it does seem trivial but they are pretty concerned about the composition of the wheel, the way the load is transferred through the hub and not so much just on the studs as wheel studs can easily sheer / fail.

When you think about it under hard cornering a wheel is subject to tons of lateral force.

I wouldn't want to be taking a curve at 100ks and have a wheel buckle under the car and send me flying off the side of a mountain or something...

Welds are freaking sick, don't get me wrong, but they are designed for going straight and being light.

I'll be driving my Family around in this lounge chair so I want it to be as safe as I can make it, within reason and whilst still looking cool.

I Present the new shoes!

Welds / Centrelines with Fats and Skinnies are still my favourite look /style but these are pretty cool and will be 100% legal.

I like them, I'm pretty happy...

Hate to say it but loved old wheels that were on it.
