Hi I'm new to the wonderfull world of Toranas so this topic may have been covered before.

What are the obvious VISUAL differences between the L34 and the A9X four door?

Until recently I didn't know about the A9X four door, I only knew about the A9X hatchback.

It seems the last part of any Torana model that gets touched by modifiers is the external body, grille and lights.

Even if the mechanicals have been changed the external appearance is still the best way to identify what model a Torana is!

Regards from Melbourne.

They were options so basically one looked like an LH SL/R 5000 with flares and one looked like an LX SL/R 5000 with flares.

Also with flares fitted they deleted the side panel and sill blackout paint . On A9x no side slr5000 painted in black stencil cut out.

A9X is the one you can see behind in your rear view mirror.
L34 is the one you just see the back of way ahead in the distance.

L34 put the A9X on the map with its factory engine modifications,..A9X came with a full pollution stock engine same as the HZ Statesman,..in race trim the A9X used the L34 Engine...

L34 was a variant of the 5 litre 8VD69.

A9X was an evolution. The first evolution of the 8VD69 A9X used the L34 flairs on all corners. The second evolution of the 8VD69 A9X continued to use the L34 flairs on the front wheels but used wider A9X specific flairs on the rear wheels.

The VK Group A is no less worthy of words like that than the LH is.

Hello if you wish to get really into it there is over 100 different changes in an A9x to a standard Lx. Black outs were different between the two. L34 only had small slr5000 stencil on rear spoiler & front gaurds,, a9x has large stencil right across rear stencil. More differences than i can type. Good luck Jeff

The A9X basically fixed all the weaknesses of the L34, the L34 had the performance but a weak drive train, the A9X changed the brakes, gearbox, diff and suspension points to improved the handling and reliability, plus a 2 door back for racing with a lightweight shell as a bonus.

A9X. (Bonnet should be satin, not gloss, and this early build car has the L34 rear flares.)
