Hi Gurus, I just bought an unlicensed UC with 5L, Built TH700, 9” diff. Drove it home from wharf, seemed OK. Just reversed it onto grass and did coolant change. Had to go high revs to reverse car back off grass (was slipping). Checked tranny level, had to drain 1litre of darkish smelly atf. Decided to drop pan. What are the attached photos telling me to do... take it for a rebuild? Any recommendations for Perth/Freo area? Any idea what may need to be replaced (the old piece of string question:) )
Cheers Paul

Are there pieces of metal in there, or is it just sludge?

Slipping can often be a sign of low fluid level (assuming it's not worn clutches of course). But are you saying it was overfilled by a full litre? (Check fluid level with car running, up to temp and in park).

If it's just sludge, I wouldn't freak out at that personally. May not have been serviced in a long time. I'd try to do a full flush with fresh ATF throughout the whole system + new filter.

Thanks LXChev… Yes, once I had started the car, run it through the gears, then checked the tranny level it was at the HOT rather than COLD full level...I removed 1Liter to take it down to COLD full level. There are about 50 or so small "slivers" of Aluminum...but no chunks/pieces of plates etc.

Does "built" mean assembled by a carpenter?

Hi There Rexy, I have only driven it ~7km (as it is unregistered at the moment). It seemed to drive OK in the forward gears. I will replace the filter and flush with new Dex111 and test out reverse in and out my drive a few times...and hope that nothing catastrophic is going on. Cheers Paul
