What’s going on there Col? Thermo fan switch sensor / temp gauge sender? Got my idiot light sender there currently but look to replace with gauge sender. Head studs look serious.

Advice was to ditch the wire to the factory sensor in the head, as on the track it can pick up a lot of extractor heat. This actually happened one day at Eastern creek when a exh. gasket started to leak a bit and the sensor read the gases as head temp. Said the engine was red hot, but it wasnt.

Thus, drilled and tapped the thermo housing for the capillary gauge and the the idiot light.  Seems to work well.

On that particular car we have a lowish temp sensor to drive idiot light, then turn on thermo manually.

Tip   -the threads are all taper type, so you need the special tap.

Pulled the 179 to change the gearbox. The only leaks were at the back of the tapper cover, and balancer key way. Will pull balancer, clean and apply some sealant prior to reinstall.

And also HT-HG 186P manual and Powerglide used the X2/S camshaft. HK 186P and those 186P with Trimatic in HT-HG used the old HR standard 186 camshaft. This is why at HT release the 186 high comp picked up HP over the HK.

If that's a hard rubber type gasket, put it in the bin, they are rubbish.

Steel reinforced rubber Warren. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll see how it goes. The cork one I had just put on had been on the shelf too long I think. It has shrunk, causing it to pull in at the back of the head and leak like a sieve.

I do have one of those rubbertype tappet cover gasket fitted to my engine. It seems ok, no leaks. It came in a permaseal kit.

About 1996 I got a “neoprene” one through a Holden six enthusiast mechanic mate when I put a blue 202 in my EK sedan. That was after the cork gasket failing twice. Now I see the cork gaskets are neoprene impregnated. This was a case of NOS gasket having deteriorated on the shelf. After the good experience last time I sought the same neoprene gasket. This was the closest I could come up with.

I thought som triples would be a bit of a talking point and sort of got egged into buying a set that were offered locally on a manifold that SHOULD fit the FB without too much butchery. Time will tell on the latter. The motor doesn't need their full capability, but researching, I got sold on their clever simplicity. Lets face it, while the X2 strombolis have a degree of wank factor, they are pretty agricultural.

Decided on 1 3/4" SUs on the bang for buck principle. Being a bit naive and awe struck I didn't get too concerned that the actual carbs, though clean and straight were missing throttle and choke mchsnisms. I needed linkages too.

So dropped $800 on this:74d668f806b881b16866f6fa4e3f5b8f.jpg

More detailed (slightly) research, I'm a Strommie plonker. Nice filters anyway, if the back don't foul.e004d5a007886f8a67f70db5651470d1.jpg

Good set of pipes but doubt they fit in FB. They are the three secondary VK efi type so a bit wide. Anyway job lot and got a mate who needs a spare set lol bruiser. Anyway that lot was only $550. Picked up in Echuca on the weekend while attending Fins on the River.

I will have to look in to the linkage but should be able to run some stud tabs off the port taps either end. Advice welcome.

Front carb the bumper insert is shot and the needle isn't seated in the piston correctly.d435b486a630e52e618339d9c945d3ea.jpg
Will look at substituting the middle carb from the other set I suppose.

You’re in a good position there, Clay
Should be able to make a real good set out of those two
We can try the TW needles in your motor that I have
maybe I could swap for the RHs seeing as I buggered mine up
trying to mess with ‘em..

What sort of linkage mountings do you have on the first set with
the trumpets on?

The Lynx 202 mani has cast in pedestal mount bosses. No such thing on the Warnerford.

Wonder what the go is tapping in to the cross brace. Is this hollow? In any case stag will sort the seal if I go that way.
