If you give me the dizzy Bosch number I’ll give you its specs. Not until the weekend though.

Thanks for the offer Byron but the number is pretty hard to see with the dissy installed and at this point I can't be buggered pulling it.

When I get a chance I’ll give you the numbers, there are about 6 of them. The best one for decent compression is probably the VK EFI dizzy. It from memory wasn’t far off an LJ XU1 curve, at least compared to the blue ones.

I’ve definitely got one of them here, the EFI one.

I’ve adjusted the lifters every which way and reconciled to a bit of noise. I listened to them with a hose and they are all making the same slight noise. Good e’nuff.

Wrung it out to 6200 in first, 5600 in second. The oil pressure is a bit lacking above 4000 so now I know it will do it I will leave off, probably. Suppose I could put a thinner gasket on the spring plug. Seems to be limiting about 42psi currently.

No pinging at all on 91, no more valve bounce over 4K and a big improvement in performance.

I’m wondering if my lifter noise is the carby pistons rattling, or exhaust leaking, even something touching the firewall.

Do you get paid for every meaningless uneducational comment you add....because it sure seems that way.

Ute went on the dyno today to check the tune. Apart from being a tad rich at WOT, all looks sweet. A little rich at idle too, but I will have a play with that at home. Base idle left at 6 degrees where it is quit happy. I could possibly fit the injected black motor dissy and bump it a bit, but with the standard curve they recommended leaving it as is. Very gratifying to confirm it is all good, and the advice regarding needles and springs given by Bruce, Warren and others was spot on.c27554d96b8eaf1d4f89de7f3c5ef242.jpgI couldn't resist giving it a bit of a rev to get 116 HP, falling off below 5k. Torque curve is very flat also.97dd911cdba3ec0fb591b7db6948a3f5.jpg

Good result, I bet you’re happy with that
Those TW needles turned out to be close to right on?
Gotta be lucky sometimes
Whip off the dash pots and note the depth of the jets as they are now
just so you know where to put them back to if you ever experiment with the mixture
or pull me apart again

You could try putting a spacer in front of the oil pressure spring,
or a couple of washers to increase the pressure limit before it lets it go.
Some folks stretch the spring too, but hard to reverse that

Asking for a friend.

Accolades to you mate. Your advice was spot on.

It does get a little dirty up the rev range at WOT and idle coud be leaner, so I could play with that, but best leave it alone.

I'm keen to see your information on the dissy curves Byron. It could do with a little more advance off idle to smooth out the response.

Generally with a bit more cam they dont mind a bit more initial advance but still dont want to go over total advance

I was warned about these regulators leaking.cca545476678d4ff0303df5850bec9ce.jpgAfter six months....4026c8539daaa5caa157af1b93a1463d.jpg
It must have pissed out 20 litres before I caught on. I'm going to run without a regulator.

Don't buy one of these pieces of shit.

A number of people have told me regulators aren't necessary with the stock fuel pump, so I made up new hard lines deleting it. 9b96de3052a894ac904b26939503a13d.jpgThe centre fuel bowl was weeping badly. Turned out the float level was high so I had to shim the seat with an appropriate washer. No more leak thankfully. Thanks again Bruiser for your knowledge on the adjustment method. The clock struck beer before I got to recheck the idle mixture.

I've noticed a slight ping the last couple of days. Below 2000rpm, up hill, on opening throttle from slight to moderate. Also deiseling this morning. I'm hoping it isn't the quench height issue leading to carbon build up, and that it was related to the over fueling middle carb, now sorted. Maybe a couple of full throttle runs to de-coke? Interestingly, two mates have been experiencing pinging last few days and taken 6 degrees total out, without resolving. One guy is running racing fuel. The atmosphere is very dry here currently. That is the only common factor I can think of.

It could be as simple as a bad tank of fuel.

Can remember Redline stuff being problematic in the 80s and 90s.

Probably even worse than poocomp stuff these days

Cheers

I used to have a little cheap water injection setup where I mixed 50% water and metho. It just screwed into the PCV hose and helped keep carbon away. I found the early Ethanol fuel that we had in the 90's in Newcastle did a similar job as it is essentially 10% metho.

The other thing I used to do with my HQ van with triple SU's was to use a little spray/vapour bottle and run the engine at 2000-2500rpm then spray a mist/vapour at the trumpets. Best done on a dyno tough where you can load the engine up.
