Haha, agreed. But a set of Michelin TB's would be very at home on this car!Shame we can't run slicks on road cars...

If I am going to race in Group 3, it has to be V8, and it has to be a Holden.

A good couple of days spent on the Gough Torana this week. We have all heard the stories of cars disappearing into panel shops for months or years without meaningful progress. Fortunately work on my Torana is progressing well and l am very pleased with the result. Ross the painter has completed the engine bay in satin black with a light coat of stone guard on the inner skirts and underside of the front guards. All the door openings, B pillar and inside of the doors have received a fresh coat of gloss black. With this done we were able to fit new door seals an reinstall and gap the doors. Once we fitted up the front guards it started to look like a car again. The nose cone has been removed after a trial fit for further attention at Ross' insistence. Nice when the painter is telling you that something is not good enough rather than vice versa. Hopefully another few weeks will see the paint and panel complete.

Great to hear you've found a rare gem of a painter. Works looks fantastic too.

Picked up the car from the sign writer last night. Since February this job has been all things, rewarding, frustrating, enjoyable and expensive in roughly equal measures.
Still have to refit the wiring, brakes, engine and transmission, but at least its a whole car again.

WOW. Whilst it's not my favourite scheme, You have to appreciate the level of detail and execution on that paint job. It's an incredible job. It's a shame most people have no idea just how much skill and work go into a job like this...
incredible.

Most everything is back in the engine bay now except for the most important part. The engine is only a couple of weeks away
and has been sealed as legal for Group C events. Can't wait to drop it back in the hole and fire it up

Have the eligibility rules changed at all from back in the day? Do they take into account how rare (or non existent) some of the components are? i.e. Do you have to run the L34 block / rods / pistons?

The rules from the period for the most part still apply. You don't have to have an L34 block however modifications have to be consistant with period CAMS rules and Certificate of Description applicable to each car.
For example camshafts and carburettors are free but if your car only ran 45DCOE Webers in period your can't now fit a Holley. I had to change out the heads a l had as they were B cast Brock castings
and l had to revert back to head bolts rather than studs in order to have the motor sealed in accordance with the rules applicable in 1976. Camshaft is free although original valve size must be used and the inlet manifold unmodified.
I can send a PDF of the rules if you wish.

Engine assembled and hot run with the cam run in. Just over a year since it came out so pretty keen to finally drop it back into the car.
Sealed as legal for Group C racing with the two front bolts on both sides of the inlet manifold wired and tagged.
Dyno and wheel alignment along with a myriad of little things still have to be done before I can finally give it a run.

Were the LX rocker covers on the car when you bought it?
#47
Posted 05 February 2022 - 09:39 AM
Yes Laurie, modified to clear the roller rockers without using a spacer.
The wiring tabs on the left cover may still prove useful in running the ignition wiring to and from the remote kill switch.
An aluminium catch can which connects to the two hard pipes is yet to be fitted.

What sort of power is that thing making?

Posted 07 February 2022 - 06:31 PM
Hope to make 380 to 400hp which is about the power they had back in the day as we work with essentially the same rules and limitations.
