Some gentle persuation and some messing about and the engine and gearbox are in without smashing anything. A little over a year since it came out and hopefully running again in the next couple of weeks.

I came close to buying that car in 1978 when it was at Gown-Hindhaugh workshop in Middleborough Rd, Box Hill. Instead I bought a Chrome Yellow registered car. Which was later stolen.

More hours spent but little to show for it. Getting closer but given up on getting it to Phillip Island historics in March. Looks like we are firing up the HK 327 instead.

Liking the attention to 1970's detail with the hose clamps. Are you going to have the drivers side coil sideways as per the factory setup?

There will be plenty more historic events to get to, so all in good time. Damn it looks good!

No Laurie l cant see the point of one coil facing away from the distributor. Guessing this was done on the road cars for air cleaner clearance?
I was going to put them on the firewall and may still go that way however the priority right now is making it run.

The sideways one was in the standard position. It was the offside coil that was extra on the L34's.

Well it all has to come out again! Bugger!!
The jack slipped off the cross member and has pushed in the front of the sump and now the crank is hitting it.
Could be fixed by dropping the K frame but having done that already l'd rather just pull the engine again.
For the moment l have just walked away.
Perhaps l will start tearing into it this afternoon as my son is coming around on Friday to help lift the motor out again.
Bugger!

Bugger! Just remember - it's character building!

Hi is it a major dent or a minor dent, if minor u can use a tack slide hammer to pull out , and tap up, if its major dent well u know what u must do, im only trying to help,

A slide hammer is a good thought and may do the job. Probably need to get it on a hoist to weld some tabs on the sump. However l have resigned myself to pulling out the motor as the best solution.
Thanks for a worthwhile suggestion.

Hi a tack slide hammer is used for average dents in panel shops, it automatically tack/welds to metal then u slide the hammer to remove the dent, u can tack weld as many times until the dent has come out,a quick file/ sand down etc the other way is to pull out the engine remove the gear box set it up on an engine stand remove the sump knock out the dent file up etc then put all back together

Thanks, the one concern l would have is the full lenght windage screen which is between the sump and crank. Whilst l may be able to move the sump pan back l cannot see or move the windage screen which must also be bent. I'm royally screwed here l think.

Correct, its time to pull out the engine, for all safety reasons, as col has stated, one week end should do it.

I was watching a guy use one of these a while ago. He was obviously adept at using it, and after a few minutes he had a fairly bent panel looking really good. To me, it looked like the trick was to use lots of tack welds, and only light pulling.
But in Tim's case with the windage tray, there is no choice but to remove the sump to inspect and repair. Pain in the bum.

Hi Tim,
What's the latest with the old girl? Have you got that beautiful engine out yet?
